THE LABOR MOVEMENT, DEMOCRACY AND THE POLITICAL VACUUM PRESENTED BY STEVE ZELTZER Working people all over the world are under vicious attack. Where and when will a serious fightback begin? The first step is for democracy within our unions – which are currently more like dues-collection agencies than workers’ organizations. The collapse of Enron and the other house of cards that fueled the speculative frenzy are opening the eyes of millions to the scams called “deregulation” and “privatization” -- all ploys to loot our savings and destroy our lives. Unionists and working people must now really go after the corporate robber barons and the politicians, both Democrats and Republicans, whom they control.
