Second Wind Productions presents Lee Blessings' searing examination of media obsession when two journalists are sent to write the autobiography of a serial killer. For reservations call 415.820.1460 Veteran American playwright Lee Blessing ('Cobb,' 'A Walk in the Woods') took on a uniquely American theme -- our social creation of and fascination with serial killers -- in this disturbing 1993 drama. A husband-and-wife team of journalists gain access to William Reach, a prisoner on death row for the thrill-kill murder of many strangers. This assignment represents a professional "coup" for the duo; it might lead to a book deal, a movie contract, who knows? Yet their growing "relationship" with Reach begins to trouble on various levels. Is the prisoner simply manipulating them for his own purposes? Is he really telling the truth? And can the reporters really live with themselves for profiting from such a gruesome legacy? When it premiered at San Francisco's Magic Theatre almost a decade ago, 'Down the Road' won praise for its penetrating and frightening look at the way our media perpetuates some criminals' lust for fame -- even ill-fame. This revival production is staged by Second Wind, a previously Boulder-based company commencing its second Bay Area season.
