What: 2-2-2: Artist Flea Market & Open Studios Art - Food - Robots - Music - Community When: Saturday February 2 2002 10am to 5pm Where: Illinois Street between Marin & Islais Creek near Third & Cesar Chavez, San Francisco Contact: david@islaiscreek.org http://www.islaiscreek.org Why: To bring together neighbors, artists, and media and to STOP the construction of the ILLINOIS STREET BRIDGE, a proposed 4-lane truck-and-rail monster which will destroy the unique community of the Islais Creek artists and the Muwekma Ohlone Park and intertidal sanctuary. Local artists from Islais Creek, Hunters Point Artist Studios, Dogpatch, and around the city are invited to show and sell their art. Local community and environmental justice organizations are invited to bring their literature, and all are invited to create a day of community. Bring your friends, share your issues. Industrial violence and gentrification attack the Southeast neighborhoods of San Francisco: A threatening power plant expansion, another that won't go away as planned. A park eaten by a massive spill, construction on all sides for light rail and a train yard, a cement plant, a looming bridge to truck that cement. Neighborhood businesses starved out by interminable street excavations, a naval shipyard that burns and glows as the cleanup contractor goes bankrupt. Secret deals and broken promises on all sides. Communities fighting for their lives and livelihoods. Don't be left out of the drama and action. Join the party. Join the community. Bring your mom, bring your district supervisor...
