Hiroshima Flame Walk

Date:
Monday, February 11, 2002
Time:
8:00 AM - 9:00 AM
Event Type:
Protest
Organizer/Author:
Arnold Erickson
Location Details:
Walk from Sausalito Piazza (8:00 am) to San Francisco.

The Hiroshima Flame Interfaith Pilgrimage -- a walk for peace from Seattle to New York, ending on May 12, 2002 -- will arrive in the Bay Area on February 11th. It is carrying a flame made from the embers of the Hiroshima atomic bombing. It is a call to respect Native American lands and listen to their voices; to stop Star Wars nuclear missile defense; and to find alternatives to war. The events of September 11th have made this walk even more urgent. The walk brings together Japanese Buddhists, Native Americans, and people of all faiths as a prayer for peace. The walk begins in Sausalito (Feb. 11th) and extends to the East Bay (Feb. 12th), ending at the Lawrence Livermore Lab (Feb. 14th). For more information contact the walk web site at www.dharmawalk.org or view the Bay Area information at www.dharmawalk.org/Walk-SF.pd
