Thursday, November 13, 7:00 p.m. Australian Feminism: What’s Up Down Under? Guest Speaker: Debbie Brennan Forget about “shrimp on the barbie” and other tourism slogans and learn what’s really happening in Australia today. Dynamic grassroots activist Debbie Brennan will discuss current movements and campaigns, including: the battle for reproductive rights in a country where abortion is still a crime; recent labor mobilizations ignited by women workers; the unceasing fight for Aboriginal rights and sovereignty; and antiwar and anti-globalization struggles. Women are agitating in the workplace, on the streets, and at the ballot box. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to find out how Australians are fighting back against the reactionary Howard Government, the Bush administration’s junior partner in crime. Debbie Brennan is a militant union leader and educator, defender of refugee rights, and organizer of Melbourne Radical Women. Enjoy a fall-harvest dinner, with vegetarian option, served at 6:15 p.m. for a $6.50 donation. At New Valencia Hall. All welcome!
