Fight repression of political activists and the pro-Palestine movement! Forum on The Political Trial of Palestinian Activist Amer Jubran and the New McCarthyism Help support the defense campaign for Amer Jubran, a Palestinian right activist targeted for deportation by the Department of Homeland Security for his activism on behalf of Palestine and in opposition to U.S. militarism. His trial takes place in the context of increased surveillance and repression of political activists nationwide, from renewed attacks on the pro-Palestinian activists, the “L.A. 8,” to attempts to shut down anti-war and anti-globalization groups. We must come together to fight this new McCarthyism! Presentations will be followed by a short film documenting police surveillance of Palestine activists, including Amer Jubran * * * * Amer Jubran was arrested after helping to lead a protest for Palestinian rights in Boston in November, 2002, and was detained by the INS without charges initially. Amer is now facing a deportation order from the Department of Homeland Security, and his trial has been rescheduled for November 6. The FBI has attempted to intimidate his witnesses and family and there has been ongoing police surveillance, involving cooperation between local and federal agencies in profiling Amer and other Palestine activists. Full details of the case and support letters can be found at www.amerjubrandefense.org Sponsored by SUSTAIN-BAY AREA and the AMER JUBRAN DEFENSE COMMITTEE Cohosted by the American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, San Francisco.
