Exactly 50 years ago, the US and Britain collaborated to oust Mossadegh, the democratically elected prime minister of Iran. It was America's entry into the oil- and geo-politics of the Middle East; some would say that the fundamentalist triumph of the ayatollahs in 1979 was its "blowback."
