Conference

Wildheart Gardens, 463 61st Street, @ Telegraph, Oakland.

Saturday, October 4, 2003 10 am - 1 pm --------------------------------------------------------------- Introduction to seed saving for the backyard, school, and community gardener. Find out when and how to harvest seeds from your garden and discover a good way to keep your favorite vegetable varieties year after year. Learn which plants are easiest to start with, and for more advanced seed savers, share and learn new techniques. We'll cover seed saving in detail, including botany and pollination, types of seeds (heirlooms, hybrids, open-pollinated), wet and dry seed processing methods, equipment, and seed storage. Also, learn about BASIL, the Bay Area Seed Interchange Library. Bring some unprocessed seeds to clean. Any rain cancels. Stop buying seed from multinational corporations and foster some biodiversity of your own! The series is taught by Christopher Shein. Christopher runs Wildheart Gardens, an edible, native, medicinal and other useful plant permaculture nursery, design and landscaping business in Oakland. He teaches at Merritt College, and helps run the Bay Area Seed Interchange Library and SPACE, as well as other urban agriculture projects. --------------------------------------------------------------- Cost: $10 EC members, $15 others, no one turned away.
