RECLAIM THE FCC AND STOP THE MEDIA MONOPOLY NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION TO PROTEST THE NEW FCC MEDIA OWNERSHIP RULES – ON THE DAY THEY GO INTO EFFECT! THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 5 PM KPIX, 855 Battery Street (at Broadway), San Francisco (We will protest at KPIX-TV, KGO-TV, and Fox News Channel) Despite the opposition of more than half a million people and hundreds of organizations, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) voted on June 2 to allow the media behemoths that already dominate our airwaves – the likes of General Electric, Rupert Murdoch, AOL-Time Warner, and Viacom – to gobble up even more TV stations and local newspapers. On September 4, the FCC's new media ownership regulations go into effect. We must resist the FCC’s plan to give away our airwaves – a scarce public resource that is vital to democracy – and show Congress, which is now considering legislation to overturn the FCC decision, that the movement against media monopolization isn’t going away. On September 4, dozens of cities will stage protests outside of media outlets to demand an end to the media monopoly and roll-back of the new ownership rules. Let your voice be heard! Sponsored by Media Alliance, Global Exchange, CodePink: Women for Peace, and others. For more information, 415-575-5555, info@media-alliance.org, www.reclaimthefcc.org.
