Thursday evening, September 4, hear Meredith Eliassen talk about a scrapbook of "Palms of Famous People Read by Madame Neergard." This collection of palm prints from a noteworthy and notorious cross-section of people who moved through San Francisco society between 1899 and 1903 was written by Mme. Neergard, palmistry editor at the San Francisco Call, when palmistry emerged in popular culture. Meredith will also discuss her continuing efforts to understand this truly intriguing scrapbook that documents local scandals that were long-forgotten as a result of the 1906 earthquake and fire.
