Video "Palestine is Still the Issue" by John Pilger Speaker: Internationally known, London based women's rights and anti-racist activist Selma James - coordinator of the Global Women's Strike, author of "Sex, Race and Class" and "The Power of Women and the Subversion of the Community." Selma James, a Jewish woman, who is a long-time activist on both sides of the Atlantic will speak on the US/Israeli partnership in the Middle East, the centrality of that relationship to the invasion and occupation of Iraq and to the maintenance of a world economy based on oil, despite its devastating pollution. She will focus in particular on the impact of women and children of US-backed Israeli policies. The event will also address the significance of the call for an international boycott of Israeli goods, including in stores in San Francisco. Selma is a dynamic and inspiring speaker who always brings a new dimension to politics. Selma was recently part of the GWS delegation to Venezuela for the first anniversary celebration of the reversal of the US backed coup. She is the force behind weekly community anti-war pickets that are taking place in London outside Parliment. She is in SF to speak at the La Leche League International Breastfeeding Conference. Also highlighted will be the weekly pickets at Bechtel Corporation to expose its profiteering from war, privatization and globalization and the price women pay. You will not want to miss this evening of film and dialogue including action proposals and inspiration.
