Time:
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
Event Type:

Location Details:
Starts at 16th and Mission Sts.

On Wednesday, November 21st, the Day Laborer Program of San Francisco will be holding a press conference and march, starting at 16th & Mission Streets at noon. The event has been organized to raise awareness and generate support for local day laborers. The laborers already low incomes have been severely affected by rising unemployment. In the current climate of escalating anti-immigrant sentiments following September 11th, the Day Laborer Program wishes to alert the public to the availability of this reliable workforce. Next Wednesday's action is also designed to send a message to City Hall calling for the immediate placement of public bathroom facilites on Cesar Chavez St., where laborers often congregate. The public is invited to join the march and also asked to donate pre-made food to the luncheon which will follow. The Thanksgiving meal at St. Anthony's Church will accomodate no less than two hundred day laborers. Please bring contributions of salads, vegetables, beverages, baked goods, and any other pre-made items to St. Anthony's (located at Cesar Chavez & Folsom) by noon on November 21st. All donations will be greatly appreciated and recognized.
