What You Don’t Know CAN Kill You: Educating Our Youth To Make Informed Decisions Featuring: Vietnam Vet, Former Drill Sergeant & Poet Steve Hassna Thursday, May 29th 7 pm First Christian Church 1035 Indiana Street, Vallejo (at Colusa, one block north of Tennessee Street, behind Sherwin Williams) Steve has been traveling around the Bay Area, speaking to High School and College classes because the only people that came to his high school were the military recruiters. This is a presentation that every student, educator, administrator and parent should see regardless of your feelings about war! Steve Hassna was born and raised in the Bay Area. He enlisted in the Army right out of high school and served in Vietnam as an Infantry paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division. He later became a Basic Training Drill Sgt. at Fort Campbell, Kentucky where he “turned the young civilian male into a soldier whether he wanted to be one or not.” As a High School student during the Cold War, Steve was unaware of the history of Vietnam, geopolitics, and how it could affect his life directly. Using the Vietnam War and his own experiences as an example he shows what can happen if our youth do not understand history, and how it could affect their lives in 3, 4 or 5 years, and how important it is that they pay attention and educate themselves. Steve does not tell our youth not to join the military. He encourages them to educate themselves about the world around them. He uses his experience to inform students of how the military and the government really work so they can make informed decisions. For more information call Danika at 707-980-1688
