On Saturday, May 17th, 2003, from 7 to 9 p.m. the public is invited to a free evening of information and music linking ChevronTexaco’s oil operations to environmental devastation at home and abroad. Coming together will be community leaders and representatives of Ecuador, Nigeria, and Richmond. The evening will include Ecuadorean indigenous music, a short video, and a panel discussion followed by questions and answers. Discussion will center on the damaging effects imposed on environment, health, and livelihood at the hands of ChevronTexaco and what can be done to stop it. Speakers will include members of the Ecuadorean delegation, Leila Salazar from AmazonWatch, Dr. Louise Perryman of Richmond’s West County Toxic Coalition and Nigerian researcher, Dimieari Von Kemedi . The event is hosted by the Richmond Greens and will take place at the Madeline F. Whittlesey Community Room at the Richmond Public Library, 325 Civic Center Plaza at Macdonald near 27th Street.
