Time:
7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Event Type:
Panel Discussion
Organizer/Author:
Crystal Bybee
Location Details:
UC Berkeley campus : 2050 Valley Life Sciences Building

The Campaign to End the Death Penalty (CEDP) will host a panel discussion about life on death row, featuring Madison Hobley. The venue is wheelchair-accessible and admission is free. Mr. Hobley is one of the victims of torture by the Chicago Police Department and spent several years on Illinois’ death row for a crime he did not commit. In 1997, he and other victims formed themselves into a group calling themselves the Death Row Ten and contacted the Chicago Campaign to End the Death Penalty to help them organize. Through the historic actions of former Illinois governor, George Ryan, Mr. Hobley was released earlier this year from death row. The forum, part of a national tour, will present a first hand account of living on death row. A short list of speakers will address the audience; then the floor will be opened for comment and discussion. Additional speakers include: Alice Kim, national organizer with the Campaign to End the Death Penalty-Chicago Mike Gray, author of a new book about the death penalty, “The Death Game”
