As TANF/welfare "reform" reauthorization is now being discussed in Congress, a new grassroots women's welfare movement announced itself at community dialogues on Valuing Caring Work and Welfare Reform held in three cities this past July. The purpose of the Teach-In is to show how women's fight for welfare and for payment for all caring work is central to the anti-globalization, anti-war, labor, environmental, immigrant rights and other movements. It would expose how welfare reform impacts in particular single mothers, people of color, immigrants, those who are lesbian or gay, grandmothers, people with disabilities, sex workers, and more. It aims to bring together all movements and all sectors to take a stand with carers for welfare as a carers right, for the value of caring work to be included in welfare benefits and against military spending, war and globalization. Without the valuation of caring work the global demand "human need not corporate greed" cannot be a reality.
