"PEACE MESSAGES: Preaching Beyond the Choir," Mon, 12-16, 6:30p, Leaning Tower of Pizza, 498 Wesley Avenue (off Lakeshore) Oakland Info: Steve, 510-763-8712 George Bush, Sr., derisively dismissed the antiwar movement in 1991 as "only 1% of the population, and no one is listening to them, anyways." The Establishment trivializes us, making statements like Dubya's Dad did, trying to make us feel irrelevant because we're "only 1 in 100," or 1 in 10, or 1 in 5 - A minority, in any event, that no one is listening to. Then the Establishment quarantines us by denying us access to the major means of communication, effectively keeping us from talking to those 99, or 9, or 4 others who may not actually support war but are not part of the antiwar movement - or who DO support war, but never hear any other points of view that might challenge or contradict what the news media and their War Channels spew forth 24-hours-a-day & seven-days-a-week. When we continue attempting to communicate even against these odds we are accused of "preaching to the choir," even when there are huge antiwar demonstrations that show that although we may be a minority of the population we are by no means insignificant and we certainly have something to say. Bring your ideas and join with others for an informal discussion of how we can break through the Establishment media quarantine and reach people, both here and in the heartland.
