“When I dare to be powerful…to use my strength in the service of my vision…then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid.” -- Audre Lordes The Great S.I.T. for Peace: A Mass Silent Meditation Endorsed by Global Exchange, The Women's Building, The Black Law Student's Association (B.L.S.A.) and Center for Education & Social Action of New College of California. Tues., OCT. 8, 2002 7a.m. to 7p.m. – San Francisco Civic Center, Grove and Larkin Sts The One Time When Silence Equals Life. Most philosophies and spiritual practices of the world utilize and honor the value of knowing when to be silent. Recent U.S. military actions and their outcomes have proved wasteful economically. (Don’t look at the Dow, look at your life). Moreover, war is costly by the loss of human life – soldiers AND civilians. War and the mere mention of imminent war is agonizing for those of us at home and abroad. Join us for an hour of mindfulness on peace – or longer if you can. If possible, wear purple in solidarity for peace and passion for life. Still In Time for Peace (S.I.T. for Peace), a peace organization founded by womyn of color, in conjunction with the International Women’s Days of Action against “War on Terrorism” want to model to the children of the earth another way of resolving conflict – which we believe at times can begin with sitting calm, breathing and connecting to the peace within one’s own heart. We invite ALL schools, unions, grassroots, spirituality, youth and activist groups to set up informational “altars,” with those who are tabling observing silence. Peace posters/banners are welcome. Please plan young people accordingly. We Need Your Body Count Alive. Perhaps this can prevent an indefinite number of future casualties. Remember that “Listen” and “Silent” contain the same letters. For info email sitforpeace@yahoo.com "But we kept on organizing, kept on teaching, believing, loving, doing what was holy - moving to a higher ground, even though our hands were full of slaughtered teeth…But we held out our eyes; delirious with grace. But we held out our eyes; delirious with grace." - Sonia Sanchez
