BIKE FOR COLOMBIA
AGAINST IMF, WORLD BANK, WAR
& THE GLOBAL OIL-IGARCHY
Mobile spoken word and beatbox performance
Initiated by: Bay Area Colombia Mobilization and
Action for Local/Global Justice
Fossil fuels are the lifeblood of the global corporatized system we live
under. Oil and gas fuels capital- and resource-intensive transportation,
mechanized agriculture and industry imposed on local communities in every
corner of the earth by the World, Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the
World Trade Organizations and the corporations and governments behind them.
Control of oil rich regions around the world has been a key factor in US-led
wars around the globe. And from Nigeria to Ecuador, Colombia, Burma and
Richmond, California, the extraction, transport, refining and burning of
fossil fuels has left an painful legacy of human rights abuse,
militarization, environmental devastation, widespread cancer and health
problems. Consumption of fossil fuels is also the cause of catastrophic
climate instability (droughts, floods, rising sea levels and greater natural
disasters).
President Bush has openly stated that "protecting our oil interests" is
behind the deadly multi-billion dollar "Plan Colombia" war on the Colombian
people. This war includes massacres, widespread human rights violations, US
military aid, aerial spraying of poison (fumigation), US training of Latin
American soldiers at the School of the Americas, and that are fueling the
violence in Colombia, devastating the environment, and displacing tens of
thousands of Colombians.
Everywhere people are resisting and constructing practical positive
alternatives. A better world is possible and a global movement of movements
is rising up to make it happen.
