The AFL-CIO has been one of the most important supporters of the Jewish state of Israel. It has spent tens of millions of dollars buying Israeli bonds and it has supported the hundreds of billions of dollars that the US has provided Israel over years.
While John Sweeney and the AFL-CIO leadership say that they were against apartheid in South Africa, they refuse to condemn or protest the apartheid policies of the Israeli government including the massive fence and anti-Arab laws that prevent Palestinians from even buying land. When the ICFTU, COSATU and most unions around the world protested the violent attack on PGFTU headquarters by the US supplied Israeli military F-16s, the AFL-CIO was silent. When the SF Labor Council protested this attack and called for the end of US military aid to Israel, San Francisco Zionists Walter Shorenstein and SF School Board member Natalie Berg threatened the unions and demanded that they withdraw the resolution. The resolution was overturned after many of the San Francisco union tops used their per capita vote to trash the resolution. The power of racist AIPAC and the ADL seems to "trump" the politicians critical of Israel and the US trade union movement.
It is time to expose and change the AFL-CIO’s craven support for Israel and the fanatic government that runs it.
This forum will provide the necessary information on the role of Israel and the role that US labor supports on this government.
