Bristol Stop the War: What Hutton Won't Tell you

by bristol.indymedia.org
The Hutton report was given a very narrow brief, concerning the facts around the death of Dr David Kelly. Many more issues and questions crucial in leading up to Kelly's apparrent suicide have been ignored - around the legality and morality of the war on Iraq. Bristol Stop the War Coalition have put together a short critique of the Hutton Enquiry.

WHAT HUTTON WON'T TELL YOU!

The Hutton report was given a very narrow brief, concerning the facts around the death of Dr David Kelly. Many more issues and questions have been ignored around the legality and morality of the war on Iraq.

The Iraq war was illegal It killed and maimed thousands of Iraqis, destroyed their hospitals, roads and sewage treatment plants, dumped radioactive pollution all over the desert, enraged Muslims everywhere and has been a wonderful recruiting ad for al-Qaida.

So far it has claimed more than 50 British soldiers' lives and cost the British taxpayer millions of pounds which could have been spent on education, the NHS ...we can all go on with this list. The world is also more insecure than ever.

Since the war was illegal, the occupation is illegal and no-one knows it better than the Iraqis, fighting tooth and nail to get rid of the foreign troops who are supposedly bringing democracy to their country. There are no plans for a true democracy only an US client-state. (What does a US president who stole an election know about democracy anyway?!)

The purpose of the occupation is to carve up Iraq's economy and rebuilding and hand it to, mainly, US-based multi-national corporations, of which the Washington gang who ran the war are company directors. It will also provide the USA with secure bases from which to intervene in the Middle East in future.

So far, the occupation has cost more US lives than the war did, and is starting to turn nasty for British troops in the south. No-one but the Iraqis are even counting Iraqi casualties. The occupation has allowed crime to flourish, starting with the shameful looting of hospitals, factories and museums â€" in fact, anything of value except the oil ministry â€" and also turned its guns on civilians.

Violence, fear, hunger and chaos stalk Iraq; the lights are still off, the drinking water is still not safe, the air-conditioning still does not work, the hospitals still don't have equipment and the country, which has the second largest oil reserves in the world, there are unending queues for petrol.

IRAQ IS NOT BEING SHEPHERDED TOWARDS DEMOCRACY, IT IS BEING ROBBED !

THE WHOLE THING HAS BEEN A CRIMINAL ENTERPRISE, BRUTALLY CARRIED OUT, BASED ON A LIE!

Bush told a pack of lies and he's still shuffling the pack. The earliest lies were about Weapons of Mass Destruction and Iraq's links to al-Qaida. Those lies have now been replaced with the lies about democracy. THEY'RE ALL LIES.

Tony Blair has tried the same kind of shuffling, but he isn't as good at it. He's stuck with the big one he told over and over again in the weeks before the war: that Saddam Hussein had Weapons of Mass Destruction which could be deployed within 45 minutes and which posed a direct threat to British interests.

No WMD have been found, in spite of frenzied efforts (and, according to a US in intelligence analyst, a CIA plan to plant them). Blair has at last admitted that he does not know if there ever will be. He can't admit the truth, that there weren't any, but a recent report by the respected Carnegie Endowment says just that. There weren't any.

SO HOW DID THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT COME TO PUBLISH A DOSSIER SAYING THERE WERE?
