the big Red Cross live-remote broadcast fundraiser didn't happen last Friday, we had even promoteed it here at the low power tv 14 last week on the news show.

You see the main sponsor was X- local radio station
KEJC-FM (The Ranch 93.9 fm ), which planned the remote broadcast from The Seasons,
( the Elks lodge, on McHenry Avenue )

The remote was to be part of a six-hour fund-raising campaign for the Stanislaus County chapter of the American Red Cross.

The public was asked to drop off donations with volunteers at the radio remote broadcast site, in Modesto

But on Thursday, Modesto Communications Corp. secretly sold this local station The Ranch to a Latino group from Sacramento.

Mr Ed Cardoza of Modesto Communications said the new owners planned to switch the format to Latino music, and that therefore all advertising contracts were canceled.

So were the contracts with station workers.
Friday, the station played all canned music -- still from the old owner's country-western format,
but nothing live. No disc jockeys, remote or otherwise.

Ed Cardoza declined to say whether his company or the new company actually owned the station on Friday,

And said because of the layoffs there weren't people around to do the remote broadcast.
But the station continued to make money running advertisements

Ed Cardoza said . he didn't tell the Red Cross or any other advertisers of the pending sale because of a secret contract, and on Monday he still declined to name the new owners.

That information will be available Thursday, he said.

Jim Money, emergency services director for the Red Cross in Stanislaus County, said that while the missing remote disappointed him, the public didn't. They still turned out at various fund-raising sites to make donations.

He said the fund raising drive didn't get even close to its goal of $50,000;

Perhaps Mr. Ed cardoza would be willing to make good on his
Word and donate $50,000 to the red cross out of the millions
He's going to make by selling his station and public airwavs to
Yet another out of town corporation.

I dropped by this Modesto radio station know as the ranch today
To inspect their public files
and letter of local marketing agreement showing who was really in
control of the station , and found the gate locked
and I was unable to access the studio or there public file.

This of course is contrary to the publics interests and
A violation of the Federal government rules.

If you'd like to rock this boat a little
And send a message about how Modesto
gets the short end of the stick
Every time a local station is gobbled
up by some greedy out a town Corporation....

Radio station sales take anywhere from 90 days to a year or more to close. Every step of the process is public record.
