by Tortuga Bi LIBERTY
On Jan. 25 in SF, U-U Sunday Forum will discuss cuts in California programs for elderly and disabled citizens.
DEFEND CALIFORNIA ELDERS & DISABLED, Jan. 25, SF

....

25 Jan. 2004, First Unitarian Universalist Society of San Francisco:

S.O.S. -- Save Our Services:
"Join Forum guest Rocio de Mateo Smith for this important discussion of the Governor's proposed cuts in services for elders and the disabled....
Find out how to fight proposed cuts to Medicare providers, IHSS (in-home support services), and California Children's Services."
.....
SF Unitarian-Universalists hold Sunday Forums at 10AM on most Sundays (tho not all), in the historic U-U center,
1187 Franklin (between Geary & O'Farrell, on the #38 bus route). Usually they share refreshments at 0930 ($1 donation requested), then start talking at 10AM; though timing may vary.

San Francisco U-U center also hosts Buddhist meditations & neo-pagan celebrations.

TORTUGA's biased gonzo take on 18 January 2004:
I arrive early at SF's Unitarian-Universalist church, sit reading in their enclosed courtyard, open to a mild winter sun, Jan. 18. Fortified by "the U-U sacrament" (coffee), I read their local "Peace and Justice Newsletter" (Jan. 2004 issue), which deals with the FTAA collapse in Miami, media justice, free speech, a recent trip to Nicaragua by members of SF's Faithful Fools Street Ministry, and more.
I close my eyes, face our pale star, and enjoy its light and slight warmth thru my eyelids. I bask. Then I try to meditate, but my monkey mind just bounces around like a channel-surfer on crystal. Ah, well.
When I open my eyes again, I watch a man doing Tai Chi Chuan exercises in the center of the courtyard, solo and silent.
I come here often for their secular Sunday Forum on political and social issues.
Today we hear from the "Physicians Organizing Committee", a 20th-century group which tries to change the medical industry. I hope they'll soon advance to the 21st century, by creating a website.
