Join the Santa Cruz GLBT Alliance

by Thomas Leavitt (reposted) (thomas (nospam) thomasleavitt.org)
Since 2001, The GLBT Alliance has been Santa Cruz County’s queer political watchdog; membership and involvement by the queer community and allies are what make that possible. We hope that 2004 is your year to join us.
Since 2001, The GLBT Alliance has been Santa Cruz County’s queer political watchdog; membership and involvement by the queer community and allies are what make that possible. We hope that 2004 is your year to join us.

We’re looking forward, in the coming year, to queer rights becoming a major issue in the presidential campaign; while we seem to have escaped a referendum on AB 205, no one knows what we can expect in November. It’s more important now than ever before to have a political organization which can stay aware and react quickly; that’s what we do, and why we hope you’ll get involved. (Members and friends on the GLBT Alliance email list may have noticed that they heard almost a week before everyone else that the referendum would not be on the ballot; while others were waiting to be told, we were actively seeking the facts; again, it’s important to have an organization which focuses on politics and knows what it’s doing.)

Among the most important aspects of the Alliance’s work is that of vetting candidates: asking them the questions that no one else asks, and making a space in which members of the glbt community can ask about issues of specific concern to us. Again this year, we’ve sent questionnaires to candidates for County Supervisor and to candidates in disputed primaries; we’ll ask the rest of the candidates those and other questions before the general election in November.

The results of the questionnaires, and a face-to-face candidate forum, will give GLBT Alliance members the basis for deciding whom the organization will endorse. We’ll be posting the questionnaire results, and candidates for County Supervisor and for the Democratic nomination for the 11th state Senate seat have been invited to meet with us on Saturday, January 17. Alliance members who have joined us before January 17th will then have the opportunity to decide on endorsements.

You can join The GLBT Alliance by sending your name, address, phone number, email address, and a check for $20 ($30 family membership) to GLBT Alliance, PO Box 2605, Santa Cruz, CA 95063, or you can join via Paypal on our website at http://www.homosexualagenda.org By joining, you’ll be saying that a queer political organization is important, now more than ever.

Looking forward to working with you,
