One person detained so far at Gavin Inauguration
Threat of arrest at tense inauguration...
One of about 20 radical queer activists was detained briefly at about 11:30 today. A man walking through the crowd brushed against the red cornstarch that one of the protesters was holding. He was upset that it got on his jacket, so he asked the police to arrest the person who had the cornstarch. While he was talking to the cops, he turned back to the grouping of queers and yelled, "Fuck you, you lesbian bitch!" The detained person was let go.
All the top cops are there- Fagan, Rick Bruce, and Putts...During the singing of the national anthem, they said amongst themselves that the moment any noise or anything happens, they will move in (and likely arrest people). They have put their gloves on and have their batons out. (11:50am)
More about the demo: There are several thousand people in suits in attendance, and an hour before things started, people had already gathered with a banner that read, "Thank god for term limits!" (This is a reference to former Mayor Willie Brown, whose term expired today)

I (citizen) was there and saw no one detained nor arrested. I saw an officer writing a ticket. The officers were expecting something to happen or someone to get verbally or physically obnoxious.
To the group staging the protests.
Mayor elect Gavin Newsom has indicated he wants to work with all activists. Do you think its time to refocus?
Obviously, the protesters, (Gay Shame) have experienced something that other people haven't.
Martin Luther King said something that I use as a positive reinforcement in my activism. He said that its about time that we use the media against those who are using the media. In other words turn the camera on them.
I was standing in the crowd amongst the suit and ties and I over heard people talking. Their a bunch of whacks! Their on drugs! Their weird!
You have their attention. GO WITH IT.
Honestly the people who made those comments have never experienced discrimination, harrassment, torture, starvation and even disease.
Conclusion:
The people their were mostly young people.
Young people are more easliy educated than older people.
So stop fucking around and use the media to educate, educate, educate.
