Coalition-building to fight budget cuts for community colleges, K-12 and higher education.
Protest CA Community College Cuts
Feb. 20 in San Jose
"Our Response to Gov. Arnold's Proposed Budget"

Education in California is in a state of crises. Already the doors to higher education are closing as an estimated 175,000 students were forced out of the community college system this past year by cuts and tuition increases. The CA budget deficit stands at $14 billion, roughly 20% of the total budget and Governor Schwarzenegge will be releasing his proposed budget for the year Friday, January 9. He has already slashed UC outreach programs and suggested that the state may not honor crucial Prop 98 funding for education.

We are holding this march to give a local response from everyone affected and concerned about education and the future of our state; students, faculty, staff, parents and community members. We are preparing for the planned state-wide march in Sacramento March 15. We are demanding that the budget will not be balanced at the expense of education and that cuts will not target low-income students, students of color, student parents, disabled students or vocational students.
