Calpine scam targets Medicine Lake and Humboldt Bay
Calpines disrespect towards Medicine Lake and the Pit River, Shasta and Wintu tribes would be mirrored in Humboldt Bay as their reinvested petroleum fortune sponsers so-called "green-energy". Petroleum corporations like British Petroleum are transfering finances into Bolivian natural gas extraction in the form of Pacific Natural Gas consortium. Same lies, different names.
Medicine Lake is a sacred lake for NorCal tribes, Humboldt Bay is a biodiversity refuge in native eelgrass beds. Both are at risk from Calpine's so-called "green energy" geothermal and natural gas. The fallacy of the replacements for petroleum is they bring about new problems..
Medicine Lake would be altered by the hydrogen sulfide brought to the surface by Calpine's geothermal drilling. Several tribes including Pit River, Shasta, Wintu and others have depended on the healing waters of Medicine Lake. If Calpine drills under Medicine Lake for geothermal, the lake would be altered and lose healing quality..
Humboldt Bay eelgrass refuge supports biodiversty found in few other Pacific Bays. The Calpine proposal to import liquified natural gas (LNG) or compressed natural gas (CNG) (maybe from Bolivia? remember the strikes in Bolivia?) would involve dredging Humboldt Bay to allow tankers carrying the explosive CNG to enter Humboldt Bay. The dredging would destroy the eelgrass habitat, and also cause sediment plumes to enter the Pacific ocean, having unknown effect on sealife..
From the two Calpine proposals above, we may question the validity of their "green energy" stance. If destroying Medicine Lake and the effect on the Pit River, Shasta, Wintu and other tribes is of no concern, how will they treat Humboldt Bay?
Extraction of natural gas for Calpine's LNG/CNG is most likely from Bolivia and other sensitive areas. The corporation extracting natural gas from Boliva specifically is Pacific Natural Gas consortium and is over 50 percent owned by British Petroleum. This transer of ownership capital from petroleum corporations to so called "green energy" corporations is disturbing. Are we going to trust Shell Oil to become Shell Hydrogen and suddenly become environmentally aware?

This is the same Shell Oil that polluted the Niger River Delta and coerced the Nigerian government to execute Ken Saro Wiwa and eight other Ogoni tribal activist who were vocalizing the damage Shell caused to their fish and native delta subsistence foods..
Calpine is part of the trend of petroleum corporation to control alternative fuel resources. After the Iraqi petroleum oil wells run dry, the petrochemical industry will be powerful enough to transfer capital into so called "green enrgy" like natural gas, geothermal, etc. Corporations who have profit as their bottom line will again overproduce the resource and cause new environmental/oppression problems throught the Earth..
We ask Calpine to step back and consider the health of the people and biodiversity before beginning new patterns of pollution and exploitation. We are aware of the upcoming petroleum collapse and understand there will be less energy available, though we do not feel Calpine is the answer..
We would like to try less energy consumption and locally grown permaculture as an environmentally friendly alternative. The petroleum decline would give us more free time to enjoy nature and our friends and family instead of driving to work to pay our auto bill..
Bikes are nice..
