Stop the Chatter! To the Polls!

by Frontlines Newspaper (alternative [at] sbcglobal.net)
Turnout oout in communities of color, of working families, immigrants and the youth is the key.
Stop the chatter: To the polls! and why we need YOU to win.
By Carlos Petroni

Make no mistake about this. This is a close race pitting the “movement” led by big businesses with a neo-liberal Democrat as a candidate against a grassroots ragtag army of the young, the poor, the truly class conscious union activists, and people of color, immigrants and environmentalists.

On one side you have a candidate who spent – together with the “independently funded committees” over $5Million in two years of campaigning, supported by almost the entire national Democratic Party establishment, the GAP, Chevron, the Hearts, Shorenstein, Warren Hellman, the Chronicle, the Examiner and every prominent politician to the right of Ralph Nader, and could yet lose this race if we all get out and vote on Tuesday.

The Lies of the Chronicle

In spite of the miracles performed by the Chronicle, who managed to paint Newsom as a poor guy who was raised from the “bottom of the pit” to become a successful entrepreneur and politician, most of us know he is no more than a silver-spooned, subsidized and spoiled rich white brat from Pacific Heights. The lie is that, supposedly, he was the son of a poor divorced woman who was forced to work three jobs. And from Marin County (!) none less!

He is the son of a powerful judge who was accountable only to the main leaders of the Democratic political machine from 1948 on, a main administrator of billions from the Getty oil businesses, this is a guy who got his son his university degrees by pushing his influence with Deans and professors, asking the Getty’s to subsidize his business ventures to the tune of tens of millions of dollars, asking Shorenstein to give him his first job, to hobnob with the powerful elites of San Francisco, and to be appointed by Willie Brown to political office.
