Legal Update about FTAA arrestees
This the latest news about the status of the people who were arrested last week in Miami, related to the protests against the FTAA
Legal update as of 12 noon (PST) on Sunday
I just spoke with someone at the legal office and got the following update:
There were a total of 273 arrests related to the FTAA protests that the legal team is aware of. As of 10pm Saturday, there were 53 people who the legal team knew had been released (those people had filled out outtake forms).
The arrestees from Thursday:
15 had their charges dropped, 20 pled guilty, and 35 pled not guilty
12 people are still being held on felony charges, but some of their charges will likely be dropped to misdemeanors.
Arrestees from Friday:
the people who were arrested with misdemeanors were released on their own recognizance. Those who were bailed out will get their bail refunded. The public defender is following up on these cases.
About ten people named Jane Doe or John Doe are still practicing jail solidarity (they are being held because they refuse to give their legal names).
People arrested at the squat:
1 was bailed out, and there is a rumor that another was, as well.
The rest of them have a hearing on Monday. It is likely that their felony charges will be dropped to misdemeanors. They will probably be released on Monday.
If you were released and did not fill out an outtake form, please contact them!
