Taking IT Global

by Walter Hough
Taking IT Global (TIG) is an international organization, led by youth, empowered by technology. TIG brings together young people in more than 200 countries within international networks to collaborate on concrete projects addressing global problems and creating positive change.
Welcome to the new virtual base of the Global Youth Action Network (formerly at Youthlink.org), brought to you in partnership with TakingITGlobal. TIG and the GYAN are working to connect a growing community of young people on-line, and together provide resources to inspire, inform, and involve a generation in creating a better world.

The Global Youth ACTION Network is a growing collaboration among youth organizations in almost 200 countries, providing resources and recognition for positive youth action and facilitating intergenerational partnership in global decision-making. GYAN enables communication and resource-sharing among youth organizations to maximize the collective impact of their work for a better world.

Why?
While acknowledged as being the future, the majority of young people believe their voices have little or no impact in society. Thousands of youth organizations have been created, but there is inefficient sharing of information between them, resulting in duplication of effort. GYAN provides the necessary framework for international collaboration and cooperative youth-adult partnerships.

Where?
GYAN headquarters are located near the United Nations in New York City. Six regional offices are being developed throughout the world. The goal is to expand, linking youth organizations in every nation to assure every youth voice can be heard and that all youth have the opportunity to connect, participate, and take action.

In addition to these values, the Global Youth Action Network is based on the principles of:

Equity and balance in participation
Democracy and participation of all people in decision-making
Inclusion of youth from all world regions, especially indigenous, marginalized groups
Honesty, openness, and transparency
Creativity, especially a commitment to remaining imaginative, fun and open-minded
Simplicity and sensitivity of language in communication
Flexibility of structure for growth and ability to adapt culturally
Respect for the individual identity of each organization and individual involved
We do not endorse violence or hatred towards any person or institution and will not affiliate with those of that behavior.
