Gay Shame/Mary 4 Mayor Press Release

by Mary Kay Blige (chuckier043 [at] hotmail.com)
Press Release for Mary 4 Mayor Kickoff Party
Mary’s Entry into the Mayoral Race: A Spectacular Extravaganza
Outside Newsom’s Fundraiser!!!

San Francisco, Friday, October 24, Geary and Mason Streets, 5pm --
GAY SHAME, Riff-Raff Against Gavin (RAG), Fashionistas Against Gavin (FAG), and Terrorists Against Gavin (TAG) present the official Mary for Mayor Kick-Off Campaign Party. The ceremony will be conveniently located right in front of Gavin Newsom’s campaign fundraiser. Refreshments and glamour will be served with delicious abandon. This is a momentous occasion, and so we request that all participants and attendees dress to absolutely terrifying, ragged devastating excess. This is the first chance to hear Mary’s campaign platform. Mary says, “It’s time for a candidate who will put an end to Gavin Newsom’s aggressive panhandling to the rich. Why are hypocritical politicians like Dianne Feinstein and Nancy Pelosi clambering on the bandwagon to endorse this scoundrel? We’ve had enough of Napa wines and big fat lines.”

Gavin Newsom’s brutal Proposition M, the “Aggressive Solicitation Ban,” would put people in jail for panhandling. In effect, this punishes poor people for trying to satisfy their basic needs and violates basic rights to free speech. Like last year’s Prop N, “Care Not Cash,” Prop M criminalizes homeless people rather than providing desperately needed services. Mary will put an end to all violent reactionary attempts to sweep away “undesirables” and make San Francisco safe for gentrification and tourism, but unsafe for everyone else. As Gavin Newsom brought to our attention, last year over 169 homeless people died on streets of San Fransisco. After Mary is elected mayor, over 16,900 rich fascist politicians will be forced to relocate to the bottom of the San Francisco Bay. After all, we need comprehensive solutions to complex problems.

GAY SHAME is a Virus in the System. We are committed to a queer extravaganza that brings direct action to astounding levels of theatricality. We will not be satisfied with a commercialized gay identity that denies the intrinsic links between queer struggle and challenging power. We seek nothing less than a new queer activism that foregrounds race, class, gender, and sexuality, to counter the self-serving “values” of gay consumerism and the increasingly hypocritical left. We are dedicated to fighting the rabid assimilationist monster with a devastating mobilization of queer brilliance. GAY SHAME is a celebration of resistance: all are welcome.

HIV IS A CORPORATE LIE!
STOP THE AFRICAN AIDS GENOCIDE !
AIDS DRUGS KILL!
by stop the stupid
HIV is a corporate lie? Then just what the hell is killing all those people in Africa, Paul? I don't tolerate stupidity well and yours is profound. AIDS drugs kill? I guess that explains all the HIV positive people who are walking around still alive and well after being positive for 20 years. It is idiots like you who give human beings a bad name. If you are so sure HIV is a lie then get your fucking ass to an infected hooker and give yourself a dose. Then take no drugs and DIE.

Might I make a few suggestions? Explain the picture. I recognize Newsom, but being an east bay resident, I have no idea who the other guy is. What exactly is the relevance of the picture? Is it pivotal to the article?

And to have "refreshments and glamour...served with delicious abandon" along with a request that people dress to the nines seems hypocritical if your message is about the opulance of the rich. It would be better, I think, if you just dressed like normal folk and fed the homeless at Newsom's fundraiser.

How about less vitriol and drama-rama and more substance? Your style is really a turnoff...

And by the way...your post really told me very little about this Mary person. If this is an example of the kickoff campaign, I'm not impressed.

I think your reading too much into this post. Gay Shame protests are about mocking Newsom, and dressing fabulously (which doesnt mean expensive clothes). Go to Gay Shame's web site and you will get an idea of their beliefs. They want a return to miltant gay activism and despise how the gay establishment in SF has become more and more conservative. They are one of many groups working to oppose Newsom's run for mayor.

The picture of Newsom on the front page of the Indymedia site. Thats of Newsom and Billy Getty (heir to the Getty fortune), the link about cheap wine and the link about the Gettys will give you more information.

This site works by allowing anyone to post and the stuff you see in the center column is usually just a compilation of things posted to the site. If you dont like how things are written or feel that certain information needs to get out to people, you can post more information yourself and/or encourage others to do the same.
by oh mary, forgive me...
Hey, do you guys (generically speaking) know about Pauline Pantsdown?

http://www.pantsdown.org.au/pantsdown11.htm

Sorry it kind of means learning Australian politics, but in brief a drag queen destroyed the down-under version of the "National Front," by running for office against their leader.

You knew that already? Cool.

There's also something about radio hit songs, too...

doesn't this guy run north coast earth first?

Sup. Gavin Newsom's record on the Board of Supervisors is that of a corporate, downtown developer, and landlord puppet. Nearly every neighborhood or tenant group which appears before the Board of Supervisors can count on Newsom voting against them and with his corporate and real estate donors and handlers every time. Newsom's votes have clearly reflected a Supervisor out of touch with neighborhood interests and strongly supportive of the Residential Builder's Association (RBA), developers, landlords and corporate interests of every kind. Newsom himself is a developer of "live/work" units and a landlord who has evicted tenants for no-fault reasons.

Any other candidate would be much better than Newsom. Newsom does not support rent control and will work to repeal it! He gets a lot of good press (especially on Channel 2 because Ross McGowan is an investor in Newsom's businesses), spends a lot of money, looks good and has good corporate and political handlers. But the bottom line is that he votes against the average person, neighborhood interests, renters, and voters of San Francisco nearly every opportunity he gets and in favor of the corporate development, business and real estate interests.

NEWSOM'S ANTI-NEIGHBORHOOD AND ANTI-TENANT VOTES
July 22, 2003 Voted against proposal to strengthen rent control by giving tenants more seats on the SF Rent Board.
November, 2002 One of 2 Supervisors (Hall) to support massive condominium conversion and rent control repeal measure (Prop R) on the November 2002 ballot.
October 7, 2002 One of 3 Supervisors (Hall, Maxwell) to rubber-stamp all of Willie Brown's nominations to the Planning Commission and Board of Permit Appeals.
March, 2002 Prohibited from voting on limits to new "live/work" units because he is a developer of "live/work" units.
April 15, 2002 Voted against controls on "big box" projects, like Ikea or Home Depot. Specifically voted against neighborhood notice and approval requirements.
March 18, 2002 Opposed requiring developers to include affordable housing in their developments (Inclusionary Housing Ordinance).
February 11, 2002 One of 2 Supervisors (Hall) to
vote against additional protections for tenants, especially senior tenants, from evictions and pass-through of capital improvements.
August 20, 2001 Again voted against requiring developers to include more affordable housing. (He and Hall opposed resolution to Planning Commission).
July 23, 2001 Voted against public power. He and Hall voted to prevent the voters from deciding on the ballot whether or not we should have public power.
July 9, 2001 Voted against limiting evictions for condo conversions. One of 3 Supervisors (Hall, Yee) to vote in support of the Mayor's veto of Tenant protection Legislation.
April 2, 2001 Voted to allow evictions of seniors under the Ellis Act. One of 3 Supervisors (Hall, Yee) voting against a resolution urging the State Legislature to amend the Ellis Act to prevent the eviction of senior tenants under Ellis.
February 20, 2001 Voted against a temporary ban on rent increases for capital improvements.
