Transaction, a program of the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights (EBC), has announced plans to commission a transgender mural in the San Francisco Bay area. Transaction spokesperson Monika Ramos explained that the goal of this project is to cultivate community pride among all transgender people in the area across gender, race, and class lines. "The project is working to create San Francisco's first mural dedicated to transgenders of color in our community," she said, "Our histories, our struggles and our hopes for the future." The mural will also commemorate transgendered people who have lost their lives through hate crimes or at the hands of the police.

The EBC <http://www.ellabakercenter.org> mission is to document, expose, and challenge human rights abuses within the criminal justice system, combining policy reform, media advocacy, public education, grassroots organizing, direct-action mobilizing, cultural activism, new technology and legal services to accomplish their mission.

Transaction asks people or organizations interested in supporting or learning more about this project to contact Monika H. Ramos at the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, <monika [at] ellabakercenter.org>, 415-951-4844 ext 238.
