The scary part is so many people don't seem to understand. The Republicans DON'T WANT TO WIN. They want either Davis or Busamonte to stay in Sacramento. It's a plot for next years election.
First, the state is in desperate straits economically and Davis is being blamed for it all rightly or wrongly. He is the man in place so he gets the heat.
A conservative republican spent a fortune to set the recall in place and then dropped out. When a potentially strong choice for Davis in Mcclintok (I may have spelled that wrong, sorry) turned up, along came Arnold. The Republicans knew he would be attacked and expect him to lose. Think of endorsements. The white house has stayed out of the race. Bush in not identifying with the republican candidates. He dosen't lose anything if Arnold loses. Anyway he is a liberal on most social issues and not a warm member of the Republican conservative movement.
Why would they want a Democrat to win? Think about it. What has Davis done lately? Infuriated most of the country by his pandering and especially signing legislation to allow illegals to get drivers licenses. He has been endorsed by the Hollywood liberals, labor, NOW, and just about every liberal and progressive group.
No one can turn California around in the short time left between now and the 2004 election. Even with the best plans the state will still bleed jobs and increase taxes.
WHOEVER IS IN OFFICE WILL HAVE THEIR PARTY GETTING THE HEAT IN NOVEMBER 2004!!!
If the can get a Democrat the line to the voters of California will be "Look, last year you listened to the Hollywood crowd, the unions, the feminists the various minority groups and where did it get you? Your as bad off if not worse than you were then. Do You REALLY want to listen to them again now?" A democratic victory this time can very easily result in the loss of California to the Republicans in 2004.
I know, may'be I am reading too much into the way this campaign has been run, but even though you might not like the republicans or conservatives, NEVER, NEVER think their stupid or don't know exactly what they are doing.

Or maybe it's just that Bush being tied to any of these guys would be the kiss of death for them here in Cali. Arnold is shooting for centrists and some liberals, if he showed up with Bush he'd suddenly be lower in the polls than Ariana was after the debate.

The republicans are doing this everywhere because they want goose-stepping little soldiers in all the state capitals. The other stuff may be true, but I doubt it. California hasn't voted for a republican president for years, and it won't without fraud.
I think they're betting on election fraud again to get them in the whitehouse 2004. It would be a lot easier to carry out that fraud if they had a puppet in California.

"PROFESSIONAL POLITICITIONS"

I'm confused how anyone can see taking power from one set of profesional politicians (Davis' beurocrats) and giving it to another set (Arnold's army of Pete Wilson's former campaign staff) is getting rid of professional politicians. Arnold is an actor, he will say wahts written for him. How is having a neoNazi professional actor reading lines written by Wilson's goons a good thing? Even if your right wing wouldnt you rather have Wilson back in office rather than an oaf who may misread lines or get in trouble over orgies in the state house?

by Realist
That's just it sir.... we get Arnold for 6 years (when he is reelected) and then we have Mr Wilson in there kicking ass too! Maybe then sanity will be restored in this state. The 'feeeeeel good' progressives have this state messed up so badly that it will take numerous conservatives to start the repair.
