Place: Berkeley City Club, 2315 Durant (directions below).
Let Veneman and GSPP know what you think of honoring a person whose idea
of "public service" is to serve corporate interests at the expense of
sustainable agriculture and social justice. Bring signs and banners to
the sidewalk in front of the Club, and join The Killer Tomatoes--a DASW
affinity group--in advocating for food not profits, for sustainable
agriculture, and for fair (not free) trade.
A free-trade zealot, Veneman helped negotiate the NAFTA, GATT, and WTO
agreements. Throughout her career she has rarely missed an opportunity to
advance the interests of international food production and processing
conglomerates, to encourage policies that lead to the displacement of
family farms with huge factory farms, and to promote biotech
experimentation and genetically modified crops.
Directions to Berkeley City Club, 2315 Durant:
From Berkeley BART, go south on Shattuck to Durant, then east on Durant
to #2315 which is at Ellsworth (halfway between Shattuck and
Telegraph).
If you¹re driving, take Highway 80 to Berkeley, exit at University
Ave. and proceed east on University for about a mile and a half; turn
Right on Oxford Street, then Left on Durant Ave. The City Club is on
your left, just beyond Ellsworth. There¹s a $2/hour parking garage at
the NE corner of Durant/Ellsworth.
