Photos from Berkeley Bowl walkout
Berkeley Bowl workers clock out for a 15 minute break to rally in support of fired worker Arturo Perez.
Arturo Perez was one of the friendliest workers at Berkeley Bowl. Whenever I went to the produce department, he would say hi and talk with me while he cut and stocked organic vegetables. A friend told me today about Arturo's firing, and I immediately realized that it was very similar to the firing earlier this summer of Chuck MacNally, who had been active in organizing the workers at Berkeley Bowl.
The photos below are from an action that a group of workers who are mostly cashiers took on Sunday, September 21st. As a group, they left their registers and walked to the time clock to punch out. Then they joined a crowd of fired workers, current workers, and supporters outside the building for a rally. After 15 minutes, they returned to work.
Workers and community members alike are outraged that Arturo has been fired. Please call the management and owners at 510 843-6929 and tell them to stop firing union organizers.
