Just one day before the 5 year mark of Activist David "Gypsy" Chain's death, and one day after the end of Marbled Murrelet (Endangered Sea Bird) nesting season, the Pacific Lumber Company began falling trees near tree-sitters in the same unit as Tree-sit Aradia. About 8 Activist were in the tree tops when the contracted fallers arrived. The fallers were Columbia Helicopters employees. They were accompanied by PALCO forester, "Adam". Around 10 activists confronted the group after about 10 trees were felled. Adam said that if the activists stayed on the road and out of the woods, he would not call the sherriffs. The group of activists made dialogue with the forester for about 15 min. and then headed into the woods to do some worker outreach. Extreme caution was taken while entering the woods by the group as Adam walked with us to tell the fallers to turn off their saws. After the fallers finished cutting the trees that they were cutting, the were approached and they turned off their saws. Alot of positive dialogue was made and cutting was halted for the rest of the day! The loggers left with a reminder that tomorrow we might be faced with heavier resistance. The Sherriffs as well as Climber/Extractors were threatened. Many activist gathering at the Grizzly Creek campground Action Camp are working overtime to prevent the destruction of the last uncut areas of Gypsy Mountain and you are wanted to help! Please contact us at 707-845-5491 or email us at treemail [at] wesavetrees.org to learn more!
Tomorrow will be another intense day inthe woods, remembering Gypsy and the events that tooh place five years ago on that day and hoping that the days events go smoother and inour favor. We Love You Gypsy.....May The Forest Be With You!
We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
