George and Julius are not your conventional folk duo. Separated by 46 years, they each bring a unique history to their work. Julius, at 87, has traveled the world as a labor and anti-war activist, and took to singing and writing songs late in life. George is a rock and roll musician who started writing and performing folk music about 5 years ago. These guys are politically savvy and don’t mind taking the gloves off. They travel the country singing for unions, peace groups, churches and nursing homes, and will perform songs from their CD “Hail to the Thief! Songs for the Bush Years” and their latest, “Just A Few Bad Apples.” They also have an extensive repertoire of classic labor, peace and folk songs.
Their website is http://www.georgeandjulius.com
and CDs are also available for online purchase through http://www.cdbaby.com . MP3s, realAudio, interviews and more at both sites. For more info, contact Kathy Lopez at georgeandjulius [at] att.net or (646) 621-8648.
CAMINANTE, Liliana, Rafael and Francisco Herrera have dedicated their music to social change for years, performing in the service of labor struggles as well as human rights in the U.S. and Latin America. They blend traditional Mexican and Latin American folk with U.S. folk influenced by jazz and blues.
The Bay Area Labor Heritage-Rockin' Solidarity Chorus has just begun its third year under the direction of Pat Wynne. This group performs labor and social-justice classics, parodies and original works. They will debut a new work at this concert.
Join these three groups for a wonderful night of folk music.
