01:00 Bush's Delusional Speech: Robert Fisk of the London Independent with Dennis Bernstein
"You can't spin a disaster forever". US Press may be under-reporting the disaster, but France, Ireland and even the UK is reporting responsibly on the Iraqi distaster. Donald Rumsfeld latest blame goes to Al-Jazeera press. Robert points out that historically when major powers blame the press, they are in real trouble. The US needs rigourous journalism to challenge the myths and lies propagated by this administration and it's minions in the UK.
23:00 Where's the $87 Billion Going?: Dennis asks Frida Berrigan, World Policy Inst. Arms Trade. When outspoken Lawrence Lindsey, Bush's Economic Advisor publicly acknowledged Iraq Invasion could cost up to $200 Billion he was dismissed and ridiculed. Today it looks like that estimate may be too low.
Frida traces the corporations that will realize the profits from what Bush's "outrageous, exaggerated" figure.
31:00 Music Break: War
32:00 Toxicity in the Air at the Twin Towers Site: Hugh Kaufman, EPA Investigator interviewed.
Our government "Lies to Protect Us". Christie Whitman in an EPA statement two days after 9/11 claimed air tests found no unsafe levels of asbestos and other pollutants. This was a lie as no tests had been done, and even today health effects are having widespread effect. Not revealed was Whitman's financial ties to the World Trade Center along with husband. Mr. Kaufman examines the situation and urges the necessary cleanup for workers. The administration's unwillingness to aknowledge the current risks endangers hundreds of thousands today.
46:00 Protest Against Chevron/Texaco: Dennis with studio guests Carla Perez, Communities for a Better Environment and Gopal Diyaneni, Direct Action to Stop The War. Iraq oil is getting out at the rate 650,000 barrels per day despite all the disruptions. Sell Oil to Chevron/Texaco, that goes into a fund to pay Haliburton, Kellog Brown and Root and Bechtel to privatize Iraq's infrastructure. There is absolutely no access to decision making by the Iraqi people. All decisions are made in the interest of the multinationals. WTO and Iraq War Interests are one and the same: pry open resources and increase profits despite the world's resistance to the same.
