Traditionally Sept. 15th marks the end of the so called marbled murrelet nesting season, the deadline bureaucrats and timber barons have given the murrelets to finish raising their young for the year. Once they are officially out of the nest, the murrelet’s temporary vacancy can be exploited to cut the nest trees down the critically endangered birds are away at sea.
Come prepared for cold weather camping. No dogs or drugs!

From what I have seen, Shunka and the other unpaid volunteers who are entrusted (by consensus, mind you) with fundraising duties are doing an excellent job of both gathering and distributing money for our cause.

Now, if you want lots of your money spent on high-priced accountants (like Arthur Anderson) there are plenty of "charitable" organizations that can take your donation, give you a tax deduction and send you a glossy newsletter with a fancy pie chart purporting to show EXACTLY where YOUR money went. If that is truly what is most important to you -- getting a tax deduction and a supposedly precise accounting of how your donation is used, then you probably aren't the kind of person who wants to give money to Earth First! anyway.
On the other hand, if you're priority is to save our remaining ancient forests and keep up the pressure on timber criminals like Charles Hurwitz and MAXXSCAM, well then you should go right ahead and send your NO-STRINGS-ATTACHED, non-tax-deductible donations to North Coast Earth First! where they won't go to subsidize bureaucracy, but will be well spent (probably the very next day) on crucial campaign expenses, including vital safety gear for the brave souls who are tenaciously clinging to the remaining old-growth canopy in Freshwater Creek and on Gypsy Mountain.

Damn, I've been found out! Ok, I admit it - we are all Shunka! Shunka organizes rallys, supports tree-sits, does media and sits in all the trees! Man, it was really hard during last years action of 13 women in 13 trees for 13 days! Shunka had to go from tree to tree, sometimes in a matter of minutes, and put on wigs raise his voice three octaves! All so he could fool the media into thinking a group of women were sitting in the trees. It's really remarkable.

Actually the rally was really positive and fun. Not only did much needed money get donated to the tree-sits, but there is now also an action camp at with new people begin trained how to climb,non-violence trainings, backwoods trainings etc.. and action planning. Wooohooo! :)

Despite having the "thickest lawbooks" regarding logging, deforestation is in full swing in California. From the tree-sitters perch, we watch hundreds of acres of forest turned into clear-cuts, and the land being doused with thousands of gallons of toxins as a means of "forest management."
Our laws are so stringent you have to have a PERMIT to kill endangered species.
The Forest Practice Rules mean nothing, especially when they are repeatedly and systematically violated by timber corporations.

Hold on there Jeff. You need to back up on a couple statements you made.

The panel had just a ONE DAY, got that, one day onsite tour. Which most of was spent at the apple lady's orchard having cider. The documents that you mentioned, PL did turn in documents to support their claim, but you know what, the water boards staff failed to inform PL until the very last minute, then told the company that it was to late to turn them in, they had already submitted the evidence collected by the enviro's to the panel. Then, this is the good part Jeff, then staff got caught red handed in a lie to the board member's stating that PL was not doing any monitoring when in fact they were. Guess what Jeff, at that meeting, Jeff Barrett also told the water board that he has a trunk load of information which he handed over to them.

By the way, the benefit and rally was great, no bad vibes, no disruptions. Just a bunch of good people playing music, expressing, dancing, eating good organic food, and building the movement even stronger. Former State Rep. (R) FRank Riggs of California lied before the Subcommittee on Crime of the committee on the Judiciary House of Representatives - June 9, 1998 .
Riggs stated that a millworker was killed due to a spiked tree going through a sawmill in Cloverdale , California , yet EF! inerviewed the the sawmill worker involved long after the accident occurred ; Riggs spiced it up by saying the man had died .

He lied on record , shouldn't he be held accountable ? Though I don't agree with everything EF! does , I don't think they should be defamed in bald faced lies . I believed the report because nobody challenged it . Now I know he lied and it pisses me off . I believe in peacrful protests and sit-ins , I don't like tree spiking . For one thing , it damages the tree , another thing is that it could hurt someone else and bring more stricter laws against peaceful activists .
