Aradia Tree Village Raided!
Aradias' tree-sitters remain in the trees. PL dumped gallons of raw sewage out of the trees.
Climbers hired by the Pacific Lumber company have once again destroyed the living structures built by tree-sitters in the Aradia tree-village near highway 36. The tree known as Aradia was initially occupied a couple of weeks before the death of activist David Gypsy Chain on Sept. 17, 1998 about a quarter mile away. He was killed when an irate logger fell a tree in the direction of a group of activists who were trying to stop him through dialogue.
They climbers cut down the new platforms and threw all of the sitters food, water, gear, and feces to the ground. Anything of value to the sitters was either taken or destroyed.
It is absurd for PL to claim that they do this sort of thing for peoples safety. Before the initial raid a couple months ago, the tree-village up there had some of the safest platforms around. After that raid the sitters where sleeping in tiny webs that they wove out of rope and cords. A while later some new platforms went up and it was much safer. Now PL has done it again the sitters are back to square one. Why can't they just let it be and try to come to a reasonable agreement for all sides instead of repeatedly endangering peoples lives?
When I visited the site today the first thing I noticed was the intense smell of piss and poop wafting through the air. The ground was strewn with trash and platform pieces. Some areas had broken glass and feces making the health risk very high.
Of course PL isn't going to clean up this mess so it's up to us. We have already begun the removing trash from the mountain but it's going to be a big cleanup job. PL often says that activists are a threat to the environment because they leave trash in the woods. The biggest, nastiest piles of trash I've seen were created by PL and the sheriffs (not to mentioned the thousands of acres of forest ravaged by destructive logging).
They also chain-sawed wooden structures that people had built to prevent erosion at the base of Aradia including a log catwalk and and deck.
If PL put half the energy that they spend on their war against activists into switching over to be more sustainable they might actually ensure thier future as a buisness. But thats not what Charles Hurwitz wants, and thats not why he hired Robert "Hatchet Man" Manne to be president of PL. Maxxam is booming and PL is going to bust.

I suppose I could be wrong. Maybe we should learn to just let big brother handle everything for us, (God knows they try). After all they are just looking out for our (?) best interests, right? Just because we little people (the mass majority) can't understand why it is so important to wipe out the worlds supply of trees (the very thing that allows our existence) in exchange for goods, and products we could have through other more environmentally sound resources, (hemp being my favorite for about a zillion reasons, none of which get me stoned) doesn't mean it's not the right thing to do. I guess it's important to remember, the people who run this country are looking out for (themselves) us. The little guy (or gal, (howdy m’am)). And the people who run this country are "Big Business", (big fat greedy pigs that would fall a tree on their own granny if need be) so when some big fat logging company comes by and chops down a trees on us, I really think they are just trying to teach us not to stand under trees they are trying to chop down, and that we the people need that dead tree more than we need some tree hugging do-gooder. Another important lesson here could be that no sacrifice is to great for progress, no matter how small or defeatist that progress is. I guess that’s why I’m so proud…? No that’s not right… sooo…hmmm what’s the word…Ah! Got it! I guess that’s why I’m so embarrassed to be an american. Beautiful place though…for now.
