Supporters for Shannon Williams Will Wear Leopard Lingerie Print Only
Protestors will be wearing leopard print lingerie to show their support for Shannon and express their distaste at the Oakland Police Department tactics used during her arrest.
When Shannon Williams shows up at the Wiley Manuel Courthouse in Oakland at 9AM Wednesday morning September 3, to enter her plea she won’t be alone. “We are going to stand in solidarity with Shannon,” said Robyn Few of Prostitutes’ Rights Organization known as PRO 2004. “This woman was shamed and embarrassed and there was no reason for this treatment. This is cruel and unusual punishment.”
The protestors will be wearing leopard print lingerie to show their support for Shannon and express their distaste at the Oakland Police Department tactics used during her arrest. “Why did 10 police officers make Shannon cry and beg for her clothes before allowing her to have them? Were there no officers on the scene who thought to stop this unacceptable, abusive, sexist behavior?
“We think we are entitled to know how much money the City of Oakland and the County of Alameda are spending on these types of investigations. We want to know why the O.P.D decided to publicize this case out of the dozens and dozens that are happening and we want to know where the priorities of Oakland lie. In schools and community safety or prosecuting Shannon Williams for prostitution?”
When: Wednesday, September 3rd at 9am
Where: Wiley Manuel Courthouse, 661 Washington St. between 6th and 7th St. in
downtown Oakland
Why: Protest the tactics of the Oakland Police Department and the priorities of the City
of Oakland.
