Film: DIRECT ORDER
Speaker: PETER PHILLIPS of PROJECT CENSORED
Thursday, August 28th, 7 p.m.
New College Cultural Center, 766 Valencia Street, San Francisco
Direct Order shows how the Defense Department jeopardizes the lives of
hundreds of thousands of U.S. GIs, experimenting on them with a dangerous

approve. Interviews with dozens of permanently disabled U.S. troops of many
ranks, including physicians and nurses who have been court-martialed for
refusing to go along. The film will be followed by discussion with Peter
Phillips of Project Censored. Sponsored by Network against Disinformation,

A moving testimony to the damage free trade wreaks on ordinary Americans.
The people have spoken. Will the powerful deign to listen?
-- Barbara Ehrenreich, author, Nickel and Dimed
Before our politicians sign one more disastrous deal, they should all be
tied down and forced to read this extraordinary and important book.
-- Naomi Klein, author, No Logo
Free Trade Is Not Free. NAFTA. The WTO. Trade agreements are supposed to
benefit us all. Instead, in the decade since they've been in effect, life
has become much worse for millions of working Americans. In Shafted --
working people, family farmers and farmworkers, fishermen and
seamstresses - - describe the ruin free trade has brought to them, their
families, and their towns. These aren't theorists; these are the voices of
experience. And they're telling us, clearly and eloquently, that it's time
to stop the madness that enriches a few corporations at the cost of justice,
human rights, community, family, and the dignity of work and of workers. On
June 12, 2003, a powerful delegation of resisters to this model of
globalization courageously testified to members of Congress and the American
public how they've fared under 'free trade.' Now they're coming to the bay
area. Contact Information: Christine Ahn,(510) 654 - 4400,

Organized by the Institute for Food and Development Policy/Food First
Sponsored by New College.
