Demand Censure of Matt Gonzalez

Why did you edit the quote? When one reads the details it makes some sense. Matt is not criticizing the placement of women, gays and lesbians, he is criticizing anyone being moved up so fast that they end up losing cases. For whatever reason, it seems this group is being moved too fast.

This is not about women and gays and lesbians, it's about the policies of the system Hallinan WAS using. Is it even in place anymore? Frankly, if my life were on the line in a case, I'd NEVER want someone who hadn't even handled 5 misdemeanors to represent me, regardless of their gender or race or selection under Aff Action issues.

Why not find ways to work WITH the situation, instead of attack people? You could easily be a right-winger trying to divide the left.

I'm sorry you're angry that Matt is a candidate. He continues to fight for progressive values in many ways. Maybe he could sleep with a man and satisfy a lot of people that want to attack him for not being gay. But he's not going back to being Democrap.

Tom is a great guy and has done great stuff. If IRV were in place he'd be number two for me. I sort of doubt that either Tom or Matt are power hungry people, and so much as Tom or Matt may be annoyed by having to run against each other, describing it as 'stabbing them in the back' is overkill. They work together, they are most likely annoyed wtih each other on some level, but both have an agenda to push forward and they are giving priority to their own agendas. No one is stabbing anyone in the back. They are two people running for office, and Tom got in the race first. Just because Tom is in the race doesn't mean other's are not allowed to enter. This is a classic DEMOCRAP argument.

These slimy slurs being slung at Matt's campaign really piss me off. I've always thought of Ammiano as a decent guy. I even planned on supporting him before a Green entered the race; then I was torn.

Now I'm absolutely committed to voting for Matt. Tom Ammiano will never get my vote again -- ever -- if he doesn't speak out against the disgusting mudslinging coming from his camp. Your editing of the quote is covering up the truth. Matt's whole quote states that the DA was promoting people before investing training and experience in them. He wasn;t decrying the skills or capabilities of the staff, he was decrying the poor staff development policy in the office. He is effectively saying 'Good that they are diversifying the office, but they should really be investing in them once they are in the door.'

My vote is staying with Matt.

Personally, I'm proud to live in a city with two strong progressive mayoral candidates. I've supported them both: Tom in his last mayoral candidacy and Matt as my district supervisor.

At first I thought that Matt would divide the progressive vote. But after talking with several folks, we believe he will steal votes from Newsom. In other words, Matt might be the perfect candidate for those young and/ or newbie San Franciscans who find Newsom too slick and slippery but don't like Tom for whatever reason (including homophobia).

Remember, we're most likely dealing with a mayoral run-off, so we need to diminish Newsom's lead. For this reason, I think Matt's volunteers should set up on Union, Chestnut and Polk streets and get them OFF Newsom. (A good strategy: "Are you a renter? Did you know that Newsom and his backers are fundamentally against rent control?".)

Now when it comes to my own vote in November, I will cast it for either Tom or Matt--whomever is the leader in the polls at that time.

Not surprising but frustrating, we see that the Dead Democratic Party members (Pelosi and that piece of work Diane Feinstein) have endorsed Newsom. <sigh!>

We weren't supporting Newsom to begin with, but after learning that spineless Pelosi and Feinstein are in Newsom's camp, we became even more convinced about our choices for mayor. If Pelosi and Feinstein are for a candidate, we aren't.

This will go down the way the Anyone but Chris Daly effort did - people don't want 'anyone' as a mayor, they want their person. Matt is gaining in the polls daily, and people like me are out on the sidewalks to make sure that he gets in there.

most people dont care who's mayor, because it makes no difference in their daily lives. that's why most people arent out on the streets this weekend for "their" guy. you are a minority opinion and have to reach out. that means you should be nice to others, including other points of view.

to do otherwise is to risk behaving like a hack.

Funny, sounds like on here, on the local news, on the front page of the papers, and in the streets, people care about who their mayor is.
