Wow, portland has a more polite commentary tone - they don't have the zionism oriented peanut gallery that makes sf.imc have someone at work deleting all day.

this says there were 2000 protesters and 500 supporters, and that last year the biggest protest against Bush occurred in Portland.

weird story- the police refuse to let them leave their house because it's near where Bush is, but they let the pro-Bush neighbors out?

Photos show the Portland cops are brutal and nasty.
"We don't need to be breaching no dams that are producing electricity," Bush said
Bush's utter confirms "A mouth piece isn't equipped with a powerful CPU."
Just curious what's happening to this tall but narrow dam on Snake River. I understand its capacity generating electricity is limited to provide to about 13,000 homes or so. Is the salmon population expected to make a come up in this region? What's the alternate replacement energy source?

Actually, very few people think that the snake river dams are a good idea. The dams are blocking really important salmon runs and have devestated the fishing economy. Even the RAND corporation has published a report advocating the removal of the dams. You can find it at:

It was actually a rather mellow protest.
There were so many police and the protest was much more like a small angry street festival than an action.
The Portland Activist community could really use the help of Bay Area activists. While you shut down your city last March, we managed a frantic, activist-only day that ended in intense police presence and A LOT OF BURNT OUT ACTIVISTS.
I'm not sure why, but, even with it's amanging radical community, progressive politics, etc, there is a real lack of cohesive organizing.
When a friend of mind posted on Portland Indymedia proposing a Spokescouncil to bring together deparate parts of the movement, she was accused of being "bourgeois."
I know that your protests are not perfect, but I would be interested in any advice that you could offer a Cascadian who is concerned about the state of of the movement in her region.

People down here are also burned out recently - it's a national phenomenon for protestors right now, it seems, following the intense actions this Spring. Plus, things feel a little hopeless from time to time, if not all the time.
But, I remember reposting the sequence of photos of people blocking a highway up north - maybe it was in Seattle, or else Portland - and it was *very* impressive.
We all do as much as we can. The Bush demos and Cheney demos were also dissapointing down here.
As far as organization - people who criticize a spokescouncil outright probably haven't been to one, and probably aren't ready for one. It would be good if some organizers from down here could manage a trip up there. If it were me I'd try to contact the DASW people.
http://www.actagainstwar.org/
But I think that you guys do have a ton of inspiration - tons of videos and people chatting on imc and amazing creativity.
Your demo today was apparently mostly non-violent. In a way, this is a huge success. It doesn't feel good right off, but people came out, they made the effort, they didn't get hurt or scared, and that helps to build the community.
People forget how important it is to build the community, and sitting in jail is only one way to do it.
Today was a success, no matter how bad it may feel at this moment. There were even more people than before, and getting people out after last year's brutal crackdown is amazing! Just look at these people - these white and middle class people are willing to risk a brutal attack so that they can say no to Bush.
This is a victory, unseen.

Oregon seems pretty organized to me. Lots of the WTO protesters in Sacramento were from Oregon as opposed to Northern California
the permit for union protesters by Bush was revoked which affected numbers quite a bit
The picture with the baby is good!
But, LOOK AT THOSE TWO DUDES WEARING GLASSES 'SUPPORTING' BUSH!!!! HA!
Just look at that fool front and center!
A big thank you to whoever digitally captured that raw emmotional splendor!
I may fire up the old image editor and have some fun with that one.
One question, were those guys making fun of Bush or actual fans? Notice, behind them is an 'Impeach Bush' sign. In a way, they look like they're mocking.
That gives me a good idea; Go to a pro-Bush rally and over-dramatize my mock 'support'! Try to embarass myself and everybody around me without being too-too obvious. Those guys definetly have the right external camouflauge and props.

I totally agree w/ Ecce Homo's comments. With the Impeach Bush signs in the background and the 2 dudes w/ their hair and shirts standing in front do look really hilarious. They make good in mocking Bush and his typical supporters. Great Stun!!!
Behind them, he's another winner.

You should know that this is a lie:
"21-Aug-2003 12:06: 11:47 Amy Pincus Merwin assaulted by Channel 8 videographer outside Chiles center..."
There was no assault. Poor amy just wants you all to think of her as a brave hero in the war against corporate media, but I was raised to question, not just believe what I'm told (no matter who is doing the telling) and her statement is simply not true, according to ALL the witnesses on the scene of her performance.
