In April 2002, Irish filmmakers filming a documentary in Venezuela ended up
capturing history. This incredibly amazing film documents, play by play, the
right-wing coup led by the wealthy elite of the country and backed by the Bush
Administration -- the only coup in history by right-wing military and business
forces that was reversed, in a period of 48 hours, by massive popular support for
the democratically-elected government. It includes footage from within the
presidential palace that captures the intensity of the drama as it unfolded -
footage not to be seen on opposition-controlled mainstream media. And it documents
recent changes in Venezuela since the election of President Hugo Chavez in 1999
with the mandate of redistributing highly-concentrated oil wealth in the country
with the largest reserves outside of the Middle East.
Kim Bartley and Donnacha O'Briain, 74 minutes. Co-sponsored by the Venezuela
Solidarity
Group and Global Exchange.
$4 donation requested (no one turned away for lack of funds)
