Recall of Gov Davis Officially on Ballot
We have now witnessed a milestone in history with the recall of Death Penalty Democrat Gov Davis now officially on the ballot, the first time a recall of a California governor has actually made the ballot. The economy is clearly in serious trouble.
We have now witnessed a milestone in history with the recall of Death Penalty Democrat Gov Davis now officially on the ballot, the first time a recall of a California governor has actually made the ballot. The economy is clearly in serious trouble.
As of July 23, 2003, 1,658,302 signatures were collected and a sufficient number of those were verified to qualify the recall measure for the ballot. Only 897,158 valid signatures are needed. According to the Secretary of State, as of July 23, 2003, 1,651,191 were officially submitted to the Secretary of State: See:
http://www.ss.ca.gov/elections/recall_sigs.htm
As announced on KPFA, 94.1 FM, 6 p.m. evening news, July 23, 2003, 1.3 million of the signatures submitted are valid.
The recall election will probably occur this fall.
If you oppose the death penalty, the prison system and private energy companies, you should vote for the recall because that is what Gov Gray Davis supports unconditionally. The Democratic Party will not even address those issues in trying to unanimously defend this fascist governor, the worst governor in California history. It is the prison system and subsidizing private energy companies that is destroying our budget.
One good source for how to solve California' s financial crisis is the Critical Resistance website, which calls for an end to prison construction, paroling non-violent prisoners, and similar proposals. We need schools, not prisons. See:
http://www.criticalresistance.org
Some solutions proposed are:
--Cancel The Delano Prison, which will cost $595 million to build, $100 million to operate plus $24 million for debt repayment over the next 25 years.
--Adopt the Legislative Anaylist Office's proposals which would save $373.5 million, freeing over 20,000 prison beds.
--Reduce the Number of Parolees Returned to Prison on Technicalities, saving Californians $888,354,777 annually.
Totals: Cancel Delano $124,000,000
LAO Options $373,500,000
Parole $888,354,177
Total Saved $1,385,854,177
This is just the beginning. The death penalty must be abolished and the prison system must be abolished, in favor of rehabilitation and job training for decent-paying jobs, and with the legalization of all drugs, getting the drugs off the street and out of the profiteering market.
The other big saving would come from taking over all private energy companies and establishing a public power system for gas and electricity.
RECALL GRAY DAVIS! VOTE FOR THE CANDIDATE WHO OPPOSES THE DEATH PENALTY, PRISONS AND PRIVATE ENERGY COMPANIES!
