Lemme see if I got y'all...

So Israel, which feels so insecure that it overly relies on billions in US aid, mostly military, should be um encouraged to change its ways-- by losing all economic activity that's not connected to this military excess.

Um, issues aside, that just doesnt make sense.

Rather, it sounds like lefties doing the same thing, over and over, in different circumstances, because its advocacy is dogmatically consistent, or at least gratifying.

Seems to me, you only injure your own cause, and render yourselves collectively idiotic in the eyes of those less um inclined in a similar doctrinal manner to your otherwise-esteemed selves, with this approach.

If, on the other hand, Israelis felt more secure in non-military ways, you would open up a wedge issue in that society that could be used against its warrior-ruler class, and make you some allies on "that side" of the fence.

Just something for you-all to think about, if you're so inclined.

PS: At the risk of degenerating to mere pedantry...

Boycotts generally work best when you're already a customer. Like, when the left boycotts McDonald's, it doesn't matter to McD's because they weren't customers to begin with-- they've lost nothing, in fact. Furthermore, McDs has changed practices (veggie burgers blahblah) and has it won over critics?

There must be some tangible gain for an entity to move towards boycotters' demands, as well as loss for not doing so, otherwise it doesn't work. It's also why a boycott is a tactic of indirect action. Not to digress.... but how many of you will go out of your way to buy Israeli, once the Pal Authority actually has anything to administer??? I'll bet your opposition already knows the answer and has promptly ignored you, again.

PPS: I'm on your side, often as not, else I wouldn't bother posting. Just bear it in mind when you're inevitably tempted to call me the things you call your perceived opposition *wink*

It is NOT illogical for the "Rainbow" folks to decide to take sides in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Their choice to make.

BUT (and a very big but) it will be illogical if they scream "unfair" if having decided to boycott Israel they discover that the bulk of their Jewish customers boycott them.

In other words, the decision should be made with eyes wide open. There can be a price to be paid for "doing the right thing" and it can get rather expensive if this is a side issue for you but a major issue for the other players.
