Photos from Lockheed Press Conference

Photos from the pre-trial press conference today at the sunnyvale court house

One deal the lawyers brainstormed on was instead of having the protesters give money to lockheed, lockheed would take the money and give it to a charity.

I'm confused though if this would still set a precedent that would allow corporations to 'get' protesters for any costs they incur or losses they claim because of protests... that would be terrible!

Would it be legitimate for a pro war protestor to blockade an anti war protestor into there house with the intention of preventing them from going to work?
maybe they could lie on the road behind the anti war protestors car maybe commit some vandalism.

Would be nice to see some accountability

"Would it be legitimate for a pro war protestor to blockade an anti war protestor into there house with the intention of preventing them from going to work?"

How many hundreds of "support our troop" rallies have blocked roads? How many times have roads near my house been changed to "one way" as the stadium lets out after a sporting event?

Disruption occurs all the time, but suing individuals for protests is pretty unprecidented. Protests are a necessary part of democracy and deserve protection wherever they occur. Just as Iranian students shouldnt be arrested for blocking street near their Universities, protesters in the US also deserve rights. Those who desire punishment (economic or otherwise) for those who take to the streets are no better than Communists in China defending Tianamen or progovernment types in Cuba defending Castros recent crackdowns.

Come you masters of war
You that build all the guns
You that build the death planes
You that build the big bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks

You that never done nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly

Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain

You fasten the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
When the death count gets higher
You hide in your mansion
As young people's blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud

You've thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain't worth the blood
That runs in your veins

How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
Though I'm younger than you
Even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do

Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul

And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead

If you protest in the USA and make your oppinion heard you have a number of options one is to get your protest route agreed to by the city etc etc and do it that way. If you do that then there would be no ability to sue you as the city has the right to authorize you.
Infact that is more than I would expect. all that is required is that you take reasonable steps to limit the amount of harm that you cause.

However if you then went on a different route and caused vandalizm you are intentionally causing harm that was not nessercary in order to push your message.
Similarly you could protest a company or even a weapons manufacturer without causing harm (except PR harm which you are perfectly entitled to do).

"How many hundreds of "support our troop" rallies have blocked roads?"

- same appplies of course

" Just as Iranian students shouldnt be arrested for blocking street near their Universities, protesters in the US also deserve rights."

If the authorities refuse to allow you to protest then I doubt those same authorities are particularly concered with subtleities of what is "legitimate". The Iranians will declare the protests illegitimate anyway.

Protest is no problem but it is not unreasonable to expect it to occur in such a way as to cause the lest amount of harm.

If it IS solely for the purpose of causeing harm (for example bringing down a government) then the protestors are welcome to show the same level of disregard for the fines as they are showing for the government since its legitimacy or illegitimacy in the eyes of that state is no longer a question relevant to the discussion.
If they fail and the government seeks the money then they have obviously failed and all their protest did was to caue economic harm to their country.

So did all the posters have "Lockhead Martin" printed on them? Must've been printed up at a union shop.

Hmm. I guess that just means "civil" disobedience might no longer be an option. Why work at high noon if you're only going to get busted, and not slow them down?

The example in your first question relates to two people. Lockheed Martin is not a person, it is a corporation. There is a difference. Any of the individuals who were prevented from going to work are not the intended recipients of any restitution. Santa Clara County is protecting the "rights" of LM as if it were a person, rather than protecting the Constitutional Rights of the people. This was a non-violent and peaceful protest. Extra security was never necessary.

I don't understand what the second part of your question has to do with this case. There was no vandalism committed at this protest.. No property was destroyed. Again, this was a completely non-violent and peaceful protest.

"Lockhead Martin". What a joke. Can't even print the sign correctly. And you wonder why nobody takes you seriously. A bunch of rejects.
