Argentinazo, the Revolution Begins (documentary, 2001) 19 minutes
In Spanish with English Subtitles

On December 19 and 20, 2001, a new chapter in Argentine history began. This video shows the explosion of anger of the people of Argentina against the center-left government for imposing the draconian laws demanded by the International Monetary Fund, devaluing the peso and freezing the assets of millions of ordinary people. After years of working class struggles all over Argentina, the population of Argentina literally rose up shortly before Christmas and imposed its own will on the country. Ojo Obrero released this video shortly after the uprising.

Piqueteros, Carajo (documentary, 2002) 17 minutes
In Spanish with English Subtitles

Piqueteros are picketers, mainly unemployed workers who have shut down highways and held assemblies all over Argentina. They have successfully struggled to demand jobs and social welfare benefits in the face of massive factory shutdowns. Initially organized in very loose local networks, the need for a national movement became apparent, and the National Assembly of Employed and Unemployed Workers (ANT in its Spanish acronym) was born. This new force defied the Peronist union bureaucrats and political bosses and places the foundation for the powerful Argentine workers movement on a new footing. Today Peronism, which shackled unions to the government has lost its mass appeal.

In June 2002, the ANT implemented a militant strategy and set up roadblocks on all the highway access points to the City of Buenos Aires. The Peronist government, led by Eduardo Duhalde was desperate to squash the growing resistance to the widely hated IMF mandates. Naturally Duhalde attempted to repress the motorforce of the resistance the piqueteros movement led by the ANT.. The result was a hundreds of wounded and the assassination by the police of two young piqueteros whose names have come to symbolize the workers movement: Maximiliano (Maxi) Kosteki and Dario Santillán.

Sasetru Obrera (documentary, 2003) 30 minutes
(Sasetru Belongs to the Workers)
In Spanish with English Subtitles

Twenty years ago the Sasetru food production factory closed its doors leaving more than 5,000 workers unemployed. In January, 2003 former employees of the factory and other workers organized in the Polo Obrero (the Workers Pole organization) occupied the building to put it into production once again, successfully retooling the pasta production lines to supply the community kitchen movement.

The government would rather have factories closed, than permit the workers to challenge the right of private property of the bankrupted and incompetent owners of Sasetru. On March 25th, an overwhelming police deployment was sent to evict the unarmed Sasetru workers. This struggle transfixed the Argentine nation: Who would win? The bosses or the workers? It is an allegory for Argentina's future. Although evicted, the Sasetru workers are not defeated. They have demanded that the provincial legislature return the factory to the workers cooperative. That struggle may have a positive outcome soon, and workers throughout Argentina are enthusiastically awaiting the moment Sasetru can produce under worker1s control.
