Schwarzenegger Slams California in Iraq
"It is really wild driving round here, I mean the poverty, and you see there is no money, it is disastrous financially and there is the leadership vacuum, pretty much like California," he said. If he had stayed longer, he would also have discovered differences between California and Iraq such as the stream of raw sewage that runs in front of the door of the main children's teaching hospital in Baghdad, the lack of electricity and water and the continual looting.
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Action movie megastar Arnold Schwarzenegger beefed up Independence Day celebrations by American soldiers in Iraq on Friday, entertaining them in a badly-needed distraction from deadly attacks on servicemen.
Inside Saddam Hussein's former summer vacation palace, he mixed self-deprecating jokes with praise for hundreds of soldiers who stood on marble floors and cheered from balconies draped with the Stars and Stripes.
But some were not so impressed with the former Mr. Universe, now known as the fearless Terminator of blockbuster films.
"Actually he is a lot smaller than I thought he was going to be. I was picturing Conan (the Barbarian). I saw Kindergarten Cop," said Staff Sergeant Dominique Rollins, referring to characters Schwarzenegger has played in movies.
Despite such complaints about the size of the six foot two inch actor, Schwarzenegger boosted the morale of U.S. troops, who have lost 26 comrades to attacks since the United States declared major combat over on May 1.
He thanked soldiers for making the American way of life possible -- talk likely to fuel speculation that he will seek to run for California governor.
"First of all congratulations for saying hasta la vista (goodbye) baby to Saddam Hussein. I came here from the United States because I wanted to pump you all up," he said as cheers erupted from soldiers in sand-colored camouflage uniforms.

The battered streets of Baghdad may be a far cry from Schwarzenegger's home in glitzy Los Angeles -- but he managed to find some comparisons.
"This is really wild driving around here. I mean the poverty. And you see there is no money. Disastrous financially. Then there is a leadership vacuum. Pretty much like in California right now," he said.
Schwarzenegger said he could not believe how he was frisked on airplanes on his way to Iraq.
"I got frisked so many times that I feel like the movie 'Freddy Got Fingered'," he said to roars of laughter.
"I tell you oil wells all around. I have not seen that much oil since the last time I oiled up for the Mr. Universe contest."
Two women soldiers giggled as they tried to touch his muscular forearms during a group photo.
"It's pretty bad when you have to get deployed in Iraq to see him," said Captain Jeanette Husman, from Lacrosse, Wisconsin.
Schwarzenegger was due to travel to volatile Balad, northwest of Baghdad, later on Friday. A mortar attack near the town wounded 10 U.S. soldiers on Thursday night. In Baghdad, a U.S. soldier was shot and killed.
The Austrian-born actor told U.S. soldiers "I'll be back," a phrase he uses in movies to rattle his enemies.
Some American soldiers said others should boost their morale.
"They need to bring J-Lo out here. Oh yeah I am a big fan of hers," said Specialist Julio Lopez, referring to filmstar and pop singer Jennifer Lopez.

Dumb American stormtroopers, keep dying in Iraq you sad motherfuckers, you all laughed at the Information Minister (he's cool!) when he said "We will slaughter them in the streets, those invaders" .... Well, what the fuck is happening? American cowards are dying in the streets of Iraq ... hahahahaha.
Looking forward to more dead baby killing, oil stealing scum invaders. Keep dying for Israel and Bush's oil.

in the first movies was a murdeous machine. He said the words 'ill be back'' just before he came back and murdered a station full of police. In this regard, his being in iraq is sickening
When I saw this film in the second run, inner city theater, people in the audience cheered when he mowed down the cops.
are cheering the invasion of iraq and the killing of iraqis, by the new terminators
the other day i caught that 70's "pumping iron" movie with Schwarztaneggar and Lou Ferigno (sic).
A.S. comes off as one of the world's biggest ass-wipes; a totally egocentric, self-seeking, two-faced piece of shit. as revealing as "Truth or Dare" was about Madonna (a boring and transparent fool).
that A.S. would go to Iraq and campaign for governor of cali shows that he's as big of a dickhead as back in the 70s. apparently he's waiting to to see the box-office results of the latest "Terminator" before announcing whether he's gonna run.

Well said.

ihave read that arnolds father was in the SS. perhaps he was bruoght here in operation Paperclip?
Schwarzenegger's father was a police officer. He was also a member of the nazi party, which about 10% of germans were a part of. They were Austrian, where I would guess fewer people were party members, but Hitler was austrian and there were definitely sectors of support there. Arnold came to the US because his parents were trying to get him to be a cop and settle down and he is extremely motivated.
In a recent interview he conducted he mentioned that in his view the Ayrans are a superior race.
Arnold strikes me as a selfish person with a strong will - make something for himself and no one else. We have enough of such personalities in politics nowadays, I don't believe we need any more of such.
Funny thing is...."hasta la vista" does not, in fact, mean "goodbye" in Spanish. It translates to something much more appropriate in Saddam's case.....like "see you in a little while".....
Guess that's why we strike down bi-lingual education in California, huh?
In his Pumping Iron days, Arnold used to expound on his purely fascist worldviews with statements like "most people are weak and need to be controlled by a strong leader".

A.S. is definitely a disciplined opportunist. An opportunist and nothing more. He's taking Bush's path relying on fame and the Republican machinery to propel him into the high power political arena.
I say terminate him now at the box office. Don't spend a dime on any of his movies.

I think Californians should be stuck with their idiotic decision to re-elect Gov. Davis.
California is a wreck - a perfect example of liberal government's inability to pay for its programs, despite arguably the most viable, in terms of natural resources and geography, of all the 50 states.
Let's hope the left never gets control of the whole country...

Republicans are good when it comes to people bashing. What evidence can you provide that shows the deficits in CA is a result of Davis doing? Davis isn't a charismatic politician. I know he didn't rip off Californians for tens of billions of dollars unlike some V.P. bunker down with some evil corporate executives.
I remember the fake energy crisis really disrupted the work flow in California. More billions in work productivities was lost after Bush took office. Washington refused to investigate the energy crisis when we made specific requests.
Current Washington's policy hurt CA. With the removal of thugs from our government, I'm confident CA can make a quick recovery.

Evidence? You claim in another post that "what Bush has done is destroy the future of America". You show me your evidence of that oh-so-provable statement and I'll get back to ya.
Having re-read my post, I don't see where I said Davis caused the deficit. The subject of this thread is A.S. and the recall push, so I assume a lot of people out there agree that Davis is inadequate. I just think they should sleep in the bed they made themselves by dutifully pulling the "D" lever every time they vote.
Now, I did say that the California is a wreck, due to its liberal spending.
Here's my assertion:
- California spends a lot
- California is not collecting enough revenue to meet expenditures
- The result is an all-time record deficit for a state.
Now, in my opinion, Cali is a wreck - a disaster, and an example for the rest of the country not to follow.
Abe, you crack me up with your optimism for Cali and your pessimism for America's future!

How many Americans would like to see Bush out of the office in '04? Go listen to what the European, Asian, Middle-East, African people have to say about the American under Bush. People around the world are afraid of this government.
If our founding father wanted this to be a nation of terror, then they wouldn't include the statement of "For the People... and By the People". They would have said "For the Rich and Powerful and By the Rich and Powerful".
I am optimistic about CA and other states that didn't go for Bush in the last election. I am pessimistic when I see narrow minded and selfish people like you out there. It's somewhat frightening to see the rich and powerful have such a tight grip on how the general public think and behave. It's obvious that either you're a hired gun or a brain-washed mindless Republican puppet.

he is an alien and the devil personified!,
<<Abe, you crack me up with your optimism for Cali and your pessimism for America's future!>>
california is hardly the only state in the America with huge deficits, dave.
if your beef with davis is that he's running big deficits, then you must really have a problem with bush jr, and greenspan, the king of liquidity.
if we add up household, corporate and government debt at all levels, US capitalism is in a hole more than $30 TRILLION deep.
what was that you were saying about america's prospects? HA HA!!
the reason you fixate on state government debt and ignore all other forms is because most state's are constitutionally required to keep a balanced budget. it's the chief reason why rightists at the federal level always like to shift the burden of social spending onto the states (which in turn shift it onto the counties...) that way, when basic services are cut, capitalist politcians--like your "nemesis," grey davis--can plead that they have no option but to hack away at programs that make the lives of working class people somewhat manageable. it's a gigantic scam.
if the the republicans were in the governor's office they'd be proposing a budget not much different from the one that davis is attempting to push through. i understand why hacks in the GOP are bewailing davis' stewardship and calling for a recall--they want to take his job (so they can do what he's doing but just a bit more visciously). but you're just a plain old-fashioned sucka for joining the chorus.
the bottom line is grey davis is a loyal servant of capitalism--and capitalism is in crisis.

That's why I'm 'fixated' on it. You are correct Aaron, in that other states have deficits. But no state in the history of this republic has had a deficit the size of California's.
And Abraham, you are starting to insult me for no reason. You call me narrow minded. Who said they supported welfare? Who said Grey Davis should be able to retain office? Who advocates a system where 50 states governments freely and independently govern, thereby serving as laboratories for the others? Me, that's who.
Now, why do you say 'selfish'?
Abe, you throw words out inaccurately. I recall yesterday you attributed "hypocritical" to a perfectly consistent statement of mine.
I recommend http://www.m-w.com - a good dictionary and thesaurus.
Lastly Aaron, I minored in Econ, majored in Accounting, and have a J.D. I think freely and am no man's drone or hired gun. I guarantee you two that I read and view more from the left than you do from the right. When is the last time you open minded guys checked out Drudge or Foxnews? Listened to Rush Limbaugh?
I read or watch SFindy, the Village Voice, Cspan, CNN, BBC, to name a few. It's been my experience that so called open-minded liberals adamently refuse to listen to anything they deem conservative.

For which we can thank former Republican governer Pete Wilson for setting us up to be looted by Enron, et al. We can also thank his Democrat clone, Grey Davis for carrying his water for him.

The answer is simple overspending. Between 1998 – 2002 California had increased its expenditures over 35% while tax revenues remained the same and/or decreased. Both the California legislature (remember all budgets must be approved by the California legislature with a 2/3 majority) and Grey Davis gambled that the Dotcom boom would last forever and lost. Unfortunately the dotcom bubble bursted and so did their “forecasted” revenue. Their overspending during these year is the main reason why California is in debt for 33 Billion dollars.
Now what California needs to do is put into place a highly successful check on government spending called the to Colorado Taxpayer Bill of Rights. This bill caps the money the state can collect in tax revenues to the combined growth rates of inflation and population. Any amount collected above this limit must be returned to the taxpayers through refunds, temporary tax credits, as well as set up a reserve in which voters can vote on which programs to put additional funding into.
But this will never pass, as Californian politicians sees tax revenues as their money not as the tax payer money. And feel they have an endless supply money base by simply taxing the population and businesses out of the mess they created.

Thanks for the stats. I'm working on a big project and haven't had time to pull facts and figures on California's out-of-control spending...
In debt for wasting on building up California's infrastruture? For providing booming propulation needs? For anticipating continous growth?
Yes, no economic growth will last forever. Yes, no one in ttheir sane mind would expect Bush would encourage the energy corporation to damage California for their personal gain.
Would I support we go into huge (national) deficits for aiding a few of Bush's buddies and their corporations in the name of fighting for freedom (my a*s)? No.
Don't talk like a zombie without firing up any of your thinking neurons!

You justify a 35% increase in spending to satisfy the infrastructure and population needs of a 7.5% population increase. Wow, and I though Bush had fuzzy math. Sounds like both you and Bush both receive financial advise from the CFO of Webvan.
I take your word on 35% increase in CA spendings. If I know my tax is spent on making the life of the mass better, so be it. Using you own provided number. 7.5% increase in CA population translates into crowded schools, roads, housings, hospitals, parks and recreations.... I ain't gonna fault our previous aggressive planning of growth. I, too, thought the growth was gonna be sustainable. I underestimated the evil doings of the Republicans and the energy executives done to California.
The $ 4 billion a month occupying Iraq is a total waste. It ain't making anyone's life better except for a few large corporations for destroying and the re-constructing someone's backyards.

Abraham, Have you ever heard of the Marshall Plan? Two of the strongest democracies in the history of the world were created by American occupations.
That took years, but was obviously worth it. Why don't you try being a little more patient? Iraq will be a success, but not an overnight one.

It's obvious that you copied the answers sitting next to you. Unfortunately, the questions on your test are different from your neighbor's.
After WWII, U.S. economic recovery was sustained and accel by continuous military build up under the pretense of potential Communism take over. The fact was that Soviet Union lost accounted for more than half of the total deaths in Europe. The real communism threat from Soviet came decade later.
The Marshall plan was a part of the recovery plan. We needed other allies to support our social and military expansion. Japan and Germany were needed as our trading partners and we also needed them to pay us back the dues. Our help to re-build these 2 powerful nations was done NOT on a mercy giving basis but simply on an needed economic basis.
In the case of Iraq, the Marshall plan will not applied and we've no plan to rebuild Iraq in any way. In my view, Iraq would only cost U.S. hundreds of billions more without benefits. Bush's wicked plan to destroy Iraq and rebuild using Iraq's oil doesn't seem will work. The Iraqis will continue to sabotage the pipelines and we'll continue to pay out of our pockets for years to come.
On the moral and ethical ground, this war is WRONG! Stop telling me Bush cares to bring democracy to other parts of the world. Do you believe it yourself?

Abraham, I've been spending too much time tellling you what we are attempting to do in Iraq, only to have you respond with your predictions of gloom and doom.
The logical error in your posts is that you portent to be an omnipotent actor. You claim to know that bush has ulterior motives behind his actions. It is impossible for you and I to know the motives, so it's a stupid waste of time.
You said the Iraq war "ain't making anyone's life better except for a few large corporations for destroying and the re-constructing someone's backyards." What about the torture victims, the rape victims, the political prisoners, and the child prisoners? Those are some lives that have been made better. There is more to come. Already we see opposition groups in Iran invigorated with the spirit of freedom and democracy. This process will take some time and we will have to work to overcome obstacles, but years from now the middle east will be a more peaceful place.
You disagree, but time will prove one of us right.

Dave, I see you're in pain. You're possibly in a state seld-denial. It's not a matter of wait for evidence to vindicate Bush's foreign policy, the issue is that he has NO JUSTIFICATION to do what he did.
You don't go out and kill and murder your neighbor and said time will show your killing was justified a century later. You don't give a gun to your psychotic neighbor, and teach him how to kill. Years later, when he can't repay his debt to you then you kill him by justifying your psychotic neighbor had killed people.
Along with Bush and his staff, all the Bush supporters are advised to seek for long term professional psychiatric help.

According to your logic, no president can ever make a decision which will have long-term impact. You're the one who keeps talking about the future (America's has been destroyed by bush, you say). Then when I propose an alternative future, you say I cannot.
(Let me argue like you for a while)
Abraham, Bush had COMPLETE JUSTIFICATION for doing what he did.
What justification would a democratic president need abe?

Dave, it's alright. Don't be too upset seeing signs that Bush will have to vacate his occupied premise in D.C. very soon.
We still have the future to rebuild this nation toward world peace.

Don't worry about me Abe, you ain't bothering me.
I'm relaxing on a beautiful Friday afternoon. Gonna head home after a good week's work at my Fortune 500 company. Tomorrow, I'll coach my 4-yr old's tee-ball team and, Sunday, my family and I will head out to worship. Another great week in a great life here in the land of the free and the home of the brave.
You're stuck with Bush through 2008 Abe.

The true problem is overspending on government waste and no accountability for spending and not your obsessive need to blame Bush for everything. Federal and State Spending are two different items and both need to be accountable. Here are just a couple of examples of State Level Waste:
SDI: $124 million to $200.7 million spent between 1999 – 2001 on possible fraudulent claims and nearly 40 percent of processed claims had errors on them.
Prison Guards Expenses: The political buddies of Grey Davis got a significant pay raise by amassing $200 million in overtime among 23,000 officers an average of over $8,500 each.
New Car Purchases for Government Officials: Millions of dollars are wasted on the purchases of new cars when old ones work fine, giving vehicles to employees who probably don’t need them, and purchasing more expensive models.
Software Debacles: In yet another example of expensive government problems with efforts to upgrade or install computer software, a poorly conceived California State University software contract is exceeding projected costs by $200 million. This on top of the $95 million enterprise licensing agreement with Oracle Corporation for more software than was needed, paying up to $41 million more than it should have.
But it’s all about the schools though, here’s a couple of quick facts regarding the public schools in California:
Education Spending was over $45 Billion each year for the past few years and represent over 45% of the California State Budget, yet somehow 10% of a graduating Senior can not read at an 8th grade level, the basic Math exit exam was postpone for 2 years due to fear of high failure rate, and California ranks 43 when it comes to education.
Since 2000, the state has spent more than $330 million on programs designed to increase the number of teachers. Just $9 million of that budget would keep 200 young teachers on district payrolls.
These are just a few of the problems. The problem lays with overspending and NO ACCOUNTABLITY for that spending. Yet for some reason you have this Bush obsession that if anything bad happens it must be Bush’s fault. You sound as pathetic as the Republicans who were obsessed with Clinton. But I guess if all else fails, it’s a lot easier to blame the other political party than taking to the time to research and understand the facts.

Dave, I now understand you do work for one of the fortunate 500 richest people in this nation. I'm sure your boss is damn proud of you for sticking for his continuous conquest for more power. I'll put in a few good words for your promotion.
When you have your moment of prayer, try to remember the Higher Power ask all of us to help each other human being, NOT only the rich and powerful.
May God have pity on your (ignorant) soul.

Tax Payer, you're indeed impressive coming up with numbers.
Looking over the first few items. I recognize the so-called software scandal. I believe Larry Ellison of Oracle and the State made a deal and I don't believe the State had to pay much at the end.
I don't recall Grey Davis dictated to build more prisons. Since he's in power, tell me which one of his buddies benefitted?
SDI fraudulent claims. If there're many, isn't it the system and not the individual? Did Grey Davis encourage any particular group to abuse the system like Bush and Cheney encourage Enron did to the Western States?
New cars. I'm interested to know how much could have been saved if old ones are kept? Isn't this a normal decision for the heads of each departments to decide? If you wanna blame Davis, so be it.
I believe the scores have been going up in the past few years. Probably spent a bit too much. Any power abuse or corruption by Davis?
All in all, do you believe these were serious charges against Davis for negligent or mismanagement? I don't think so. remeber California is the largest 7th nation in the world!
Here's an article for your review:
BLAME BUSH IN STATE FISCAL CRISIS
Robert Scheer, AlterNet
It is absurd to blame current difficulties on any state's governor, Republican or Democrat. It is the Bush administration that has mismanaged a successful economy inherited from Bill Clinton. It is the Bush administration that should bear responsibility for the difficulties being experienced by state governments -- and it should at least help California as much as it is helping our newest state, Iraq.

While I do place some blame on Grey Davis, if you also read my previous posts, I’ve never said that he is solely responsible. I also place blame on the California State Legislature (again as I stated before all State Budgets must past with 2/3 majority) who approved of this egregious spending.
If you remember I did state: “But this will never pass, as Californian politicians sees tax revenues as their money not as the tax payer money. And feel they have an endless supply money base by simply taxing the population and businesses out of the mess they created.”
And again, I will state there is no ACCOUNTABLITY on any level in the State Government for on spending. And I don’t think it’s outrageous for the State Government to be held to the same standards that private enterprise is held. And private enterprise is held accountable for both spending and efficiency to their owners. I now know where all the dotcom executives went, they all became Californian Politicians because their spending habits remind me of the dotcom days.
But to give you some information, Grey Davis’s political buddies was the Prison Guard Union: See http://www.bayarea.com/mld/mercurynews/3272140.htm
As to the Cars, in San Jose they recently put a freeze on new car purchases saving the city of San Jose millions of dollars. As of yet, the State Government has yet to put this type of smart spending into effect.
All in all, yes I do believe that Davis is guilty of negligent or mismanagement. Just like with the up coming federal budget when we there is a deficit, I will say Bush will be guilty of negligent or mismanagement, and Ken Lay for Enron and Bernard Ebbers for Worldcom. That fact is these people are leaders and the buck is suppose to stop with them. And ultimately they should be one the held responsible for what happens under their watch.
Also, the article by Robert Scheer, AlterNet is one of the most laughable pieces I have read regarding Enron. This article bias and misleading facts is equivalent to me referring you to the NRA on Gun Control. If you want to learn the real facts about Enron, the BBC did an excellent job on it and see: http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/static/in_depth/business/2002/enron/timeline/default.stm .

Just like what Truman said "The buck stop here".
The Fed deficit is gonna be $ 450 B. 50% higher than what the White House previously said publicly. Zillion % higher than when most economists predicted when Clinton left office. In less than 2 years, Bush was able to turn our econ yielding hundreds of billion surplus per year into 1/2 trillion deficits.
Not saying boom econ willl last forever, but I am not aware of any administration has ever been blatantly reckless.
If Bush is impeached and Ken lay is put in jail for life NOW, then I'll support the recall ballot for Davis.

How is Bush responsible for the downturn that began in the last few months of the Clinton administration?
Here's what changed between the two:
1a - Internet / tech growth - every company spent (or wasted) money on tech in the 90's. In 1998-99 my company 'invested' about $20 million, errantly.
1b - Internet / tech bust - in 2000's, the tech that did not work as well as everyone hoped was abandoned and written off. That $20 million? Capitalized in 90's, EXPENSED in 2001. That makes the financials look bad from year to year; earnings bad; stock market bad. My co. was not alone.
2a - Corporate book cooking - in Clinton admin - market up.
2b - Corporate busting - in Bush admin - market down.
3 - Y2K - remember that? Clinton had the benefit of a good old fashioned war-time economy with every corporation in the U.S. paying teams of techies to tackle the Y2k bug. Once over, the techies weren't needed. ( = economic recession)
4 - Oil, baby! Oil prices went up over 35% due to many factors, primarily labor strife in Argentina. When people have to spend more on gas, it's less on everything else.
5 - Terrorism - ignored by the Clinton admin, Bush forced to clean it up; insurance costs go up 40%; travel and tourism down; oil; war.
Now, there are my 5 reasons for the economic recession - not to mention the cyclical nature of the economy.
How'd Bush cause the economic downturn, Abe?

Arnold gets around...
I hold people to the same standards regardless of them having either an R or D by their name. I don’t make excuses for Bush’s ridiculous overspending and tax cut orgy as Dave does and I don’t make excuses for Davis for his idiotic overspending policies and over taxation solution to get out of debt like you do to defend Davis. I keep my standards regardless of it being a right or left issue.
I think Ken Lay’s should be thrown in jail and all his assets frozen seized just like I think Bernard Ebbers should be thrown in jail and all his assets frozen seized. The only thing that is keeping them out is that the both made massive donations to either the Republicans (Lay) or the Democrats (Ebbers).
But that’s the problem with most people is that they think that if it comes from their side of the aisle it’s automatically good. Unfortunately most people have lost their ability to think for themselves.

I criticized Bush's spending levels. I think Bush should be leading the way in reducing government instead of acting like a democrat with his spending. Also, I have no 'side of the aisle' - I've voted for democrats and 3d party candidates.
Above, I was merely giving Abe the reasons for the national economic downturn.
With regard to Bush's cut and spend, it will at least have the effect of disabling democratic plans for universal healthcare. They'll be unable to anser this question: "If we are already in a deficit situation, how will you pay for your massive programs?"
Abe will tell them to say "cut military spending", and then, if they say that, they'll lose the 2004 election.

tax payer, I like your gutsy remarks. I agree with you. Accountability is a key to better governing the nation. "The busck stops here."
Dave, it's not to win the election. It's to win back the nation and the hearts of its people. Military spendings are way out of control. Bush's Star War program is technological impractical. Have you read the conclusion from the expert physicists group? It doesn't work and it's a waste of money.
Don't let A.S. Terminator movies making you to believe the machines are taking over and we have to spend more on Pentagon. Pentagon is the one who's taking over the world merely by its huge spending budget.

Take action, impeach Bush gang now before it's too late.
Does that mean the answer to neo-conservatism being libiterianism ( less money to the "neo-conservatives")...
It's pathetic to see either a career criminal or just-another-mouth-piece hijacking for public offices from the Republican party.
Arnold, it's about time to learn about the U.S. government and politics. But not to worry, just follow the exact instruction when you hear "Karl says" and you'll do just fine like our Selected Prez.

The NASCAR candidate has landed.
Truth hurts.

My tax dollars are used to kill innocent people in unjust and illegal wars. And there's no end in sight. Yes, the truth hurts. I'm trying to do something to correct our mistake and to make up for our sins.
If he had stayed longer, he would also have discovered differences between California and Iraq such as the stream of raw sewage that runs in front of the door of the main children's teaching hospital in Baghdad, the lack of electricity and water and the continual looting.
